Uneven hood

The panel gap by the hood is massive. Sent the pic to the dealer and he told me to open hood and close again as he thought the hood was closed badly. Tried opening and closing a few times pressing the middle of the hood. Anyone else? [IMG][/IMG]

It's your nose cone. Easy to adjust. 10mm nuts along the top. See this youtube vid...

Basically loosen the top bolts of the front bumper, push the bumper up, tighten down. No more hood gap.

I've always closed my hoods on previous cars by lowering it down and pushing down to latch, but on my 335, I've found that pressing down on the middle of the hood rarely latches both sides. Try holding it up about a foot and let it drop.

Okay I see, I have BMW warranty so I might check with them to fix it...

Do you have any idea of what causes this? I think it has all the time been slightly like since I bought it a month ago, but it's gotten way worse now.

Had the same problem. Really easy to fix. If adjusting the 10mm top nuts at the top of the bumper doesn't work (or doesn't get it all the way), remove the plastic lock on the hood latch and spin the ring to lower the latch post. Try one or two rotations at a time, put the clip back on and drop the hood to close from about a foot up. If you need to force it to close by pressing you may be unable to release it again easily, be cautious.

Did you try just letting it drop from about a foot (30cm+/-) to see if that does the trick?

Saggy bumper? Once you look at it, you'll understand. It's not too difficult to catch the top edge of the bumper and move it down. The screw-nut that fastens the bumper top to the car body is one of those washer/screw types like 1-inch big. (Been a few months since I pulled my bumper). It does a decent job keeping the bumper in place, but doesn't take much force to move around.

Best guess, maybe someone pulled on the bumper while the hood was up.
Or, the screw was a little loose and someone bumped a parking block.

Generally. whenever the lower front bumper hits something, it will tend to exert pressure on the bumper in a downward movement.
Kinda leaning toward a semi-loose screw and a bump to the right side of the bumper.

But needless to say, not a huge cost to fix nor difficult to do.

Was any work done on the car? I had a fender bender and a headlight was replaced as a result. This caused a noticeably uneven gap as the bumper cover rested lower on one side than it should. Resolved by adjusting the headlight to sit a bit higher, but had to remove the bumper cover to do that. (I hate it when shops think something is 'good enough'). It was also pretty obvious that the headlight was the issue as the gaps around it were clearly larger than the other side.

Also try adjusting the bumper cover fitment by removing the weather stripping and playing with the torx bolts holding it down.

@light369

Any updates? Did you try closing the hood like I suggested? Just curious because I really feel like that's the only issue. Maybe your bumper IS actually misaligned, but I'm banking on it being the simplest answer.

I got really optimistic when I saw your message but no, it didn't work

Bummer! I guess some sort of adjustment is in order. Shouldn't be too bad of a process though. Hope you sort it out!

Hah, that was demonstrated by the dealership when I went to pick up the car and they were presenting it.
They said "Now we'll show you how to correctly close the bonnet. It's gonna get scary, but no worries, this is how it should be done, it won't break" And then he just dropped it with some inertia in front of my shocked eyes. Good that he warned me

hi,i know this is sometimes ago but did you get that gap away?

coz i recently do my f30 headlight conversion and i run in to similar problem only different is im bolt side down lol

after i play around for few weeks what go wrong is that when i put the bumper back up to the car these is small tunnel under the headlights if you don't put that in right the bumper will push out maybe 2~3mm and than when you push the top back to the way it was that is what cost that small side bit bend down(can be a headlight install problem if the headlight are install not high enough than you wont able to push the bumper in to that small tunnel)

if you still havent get that bend away you can simply check if you bumper sitting right in the small tunnel under your headlight
