Is it a G-series car?
Because i wonder a bit about the ecus, which i have never seen on an F3x.
The coding for G-series cars works partially differently.


The message with the VCM is normal because most people deactivate the update of the VCM.
If it bothers you, you can reactivate the update from the VCM via options-> settings-> options and the first VCM update message will not appear again.

The only problem i see is the coding of the DSC_VIP_IB4 which doesn't work.
A quick search on google showed the result that other people also have the problem with this control unit.
But i don't know why this happens.

Ok so in my case I should check the update vcm and code to factory dsc and see if this works. I assume this will give the authority to write to vcm which the error message is saying I don’t have. When finished uncheck the box

I too have lost the "CID" information on the Kombi - is there certain codes for these or is the restore only way ?
So, could i just FDL code them "back"?!

I did only remove TPMS (and enable RPA) but i had some hickups on the way.
Now, with latest PSDZData i got over to coding ok - but like said, disappeared the hybrid/e information...

Can you describe what you mean with "CID" Information on the Kombi?

Well actually i'm not sure how it is called - under tachometer is the small screen (or part of it) where normally is e-drive information and economy dash.
this dash is now gone, only visible is battery level (box with columns in it) and chosen drive mode if not default.
i try to find some pic to elaborate.

Edit: Picture shows the stuff under tacho and in the middle is gone ;(

Unfortunately I don’t know the FDL code for it.
But you can look in the iDrive menu to see whether all items are activated in the settings for the kombi.
If so, you may have to reset the kombi.

thanks - just played around but without resolution. Once kombi is being coded, i can in the dash those missing items, but they are to disappear and won't come back.

I was trying to enable Sport+, which i did so that i can select it, but the Sport+ is missing the menu - that is probably because my EGS fdl doesn't show all the needed selections. Still i was able to do that with Bimmercode.

Just to confirm - if i select KOMBI, then click on CODE (on the folder, not ncd) - it will reset KOMBI ECU to factory? setup?

Yes, it will reset the kombi to the factory settings.

Did that, didn't help.
But, as were browsing through the diffrerent options, i discovered there individual ones that brought back the economy/electricity meters:
ECO_RW_ANALOG_ENABLE
ECO_RW_DIGITAL_ENABLE
DISP_CON_HYB_APPL

Don't know exactly which one of those did the trick, but worth the try if needed!

Just a hint if someone else faces this. To code DSC_VIP_IB4 you have to put the car into diagnostics mode. Otherwise coding this ECU will fail.

Thanks for this it saves so much time. My neighbour has a garage and has swapped a steering rack on an x5 last time I updated and flashed the module then used ista to clear the codes and activate the steering angle.

This time I did what you wrote it wouldn't show the cafd file so couldn't code it but I clicked detect caf and chose the latest version.

Then finished setting up and clearing codes in ista.

So thank you for this.

I have always been worried doing it the previous way because once I update to latest firmware it doesn't show again if there is no later firmware this way I can reset the firmware or even roll it back (if that makes any sense)
