What would you offer on this 440i
The original MSRP was $64,000+.
Little more bling than my wife wants, but loves the color. https://www.bmwofmurrieta.com/invent...4j5c0xlbu79329 Dealer says I am lucky to get $4k off, I know I am stretching at 25% off. Interested in your thoughts. Thanks |

Dealer is full of it. You should get 4K off if new. You aren’t going to get 15k off either. Someone may pay that. It shouldn’t be you. I don’t know the So Cal. Market. I would check something like truecar.com. This is not a good price. Paying more for a car because you like the color is not wise.
There is conflicting info there. If it’s pre-owned,there is no way. Has it been titled? Last edited by Elvisfan; 11-12-2019 at 02:52 PM.. |

I would want at least 15% off a loaner. Usually get 10-12% on new, so 15 would be my baseline.

At $60k ...that's almost brand new with BMW incentive right now at $4500 on brand new BMW and dealer could offer at least $1500 to get your business, a total of $6000 of on a brand new 4 series.
This is used and you only get $4k.... that bs offer. Quote:
You could get a better price CPO car like 2018 model... extended warranty too |

IMO car should be around 48-52k. Most dealers discount 4 series (relatively) heavily considering they are nearing the end of the life cycle, especially the GC (which they usually have higher inventories of for a number of reasons). M-Sport models are a bit harder to haggle on but there still should be significant room. Considering its a courtesy vehicle, price should be drastically lower. Most dealers are taking 7+% off new cars.
Dealers full of BS if he is telling you 4k is lucky, its barely an introductory offer. |

Tell Dealer he's lucky to have a buyer for his used car, as used cars are more than plentiful than room on lots and sales on 4 series are declining almost 40% Year to Date and down almost 70% in October compared to last year.

Offered 48k, said we were planets away, and they have several people interested. I told him thanks, and feel free to contact me next week if he wanted to sell it.

Well done. I agree with everyone else - this dealer surely is living in a different galaxy expecting that price; no wonder they thought you were planets away.

Loaners are usually pulled at 4.5k miles.

Might as well just buy a new car at that price. Do you really want to buy a fast-ish BMW that's been driven by a bunch of people who don't own it?
I don't know the market, but as a wild guess I'd pay $50k for that car. |

So? The first 3k miles were likely driven by 10-20 people without concern for long term performance. Also dings, scratches, curb rash, interior wear, all budget fixed and ready for the next loaner session. I wouldnt touch a prior rental with a 10 foot pole, theres no reason to commit to that. If your plan is to drive it for 2 years and hawk it under warranty at 35k to the next owner, I guess it matters less, except some buyers will not be interested becasuse of the history. There should be a considerable concession for the fact that it is used and as a loaner. plus 4series gran coupe are not a hot seller. My dad just stole a fully loaded 16 535xGT with 33k for $56k under orig MSRP, though compared to everything else on the market it appeared to be priced high.

I bought my 340i when it has 9K miles and it was 1 year old. MSRP was $56K and I got it for $36K. So you do the math.

FWIW, I am taking delivery on Friday of a custom-ordered 2020 F32 440. Sales price was 15% below MSRP, so for a loaner, take another 5% off (maybe 2% if they CPO it). SoCal market might be different but tell him that new cars spec'd out exactly like you want them are going for $5-6k less than he is asking for a used one.

4K off of a 64K loaner... LOL! The dealer actually thinks they are going to get OVER invoice on a loaner car.
Good luck to that sales guy and super sorry to anyone who pays within 15% of MSRP on an outgoing model loaner. You did the right thing, OP. |
