Inner door handle / door grab wear and tear

pic link:
View post on imgur.com

The inside of my door handle (that I grip when opening the door) has been worn down since I bought it (previous owner was disgusting).

I was wondering if anyone had tips on how to replace it.

I don't think I can "restore" it because the top soft layer of the rubber is worn down and putting a new coating would be difficult because of the position.

I've taken off the trim and looked inside and there's a bolt in there, but taking it off doesn't remove the grab handle.

I've looked at lots of guides online and with e9x models it was simple to pull out but this seems more difficult.

Anyone have ideas?

I don’t know what’s with BMW and door pulls. Our previous X5 door pulls had a soft coating, almost like paint. It would constantly tear, like within a few months. Had it replaced many times under warranty. I’ve noticed BMW is now using a slightly thicker rubber, but it’s still really soft and subject to wear as OP has noticed. I wish they’d go back to something more durable.

Subscribing. Have the same issue, but much worse. Will this be covered under warranty? I'll have to try and remember to ask when I take mine in for service.

Yeah, I've seen the part number and the part, ECS even sells it. I just need help on taking it off.

The poster above us said they did... I'll do the same when I bring it in for an oil change!

If under warranty it should be covered. I had my coral red drivers seat replaced because the leather wore out in the 1st 1.5 of ownership.

Search YouTube, many times you'll find DIY videos for different repairs/mods.
Not the same year as your car but the issue is similar to yours.

At least the rubbery part is available separately vs. integral to the door panel.

Support, pull strap, left SCHWARZ 51417279311
Support, pull strap, right SCHWARZ 51417279312

You might find removal tips at the Bav Sound site:

Um, they are the same....as noted by the word for word instructions and identical pictures.

The link I posted works just fine for OPs purpose.

Now for your earlier post which referred to a Bavsound Video which isn’t at the link you posted, that gives no info about the need to drill the welds out, cut the handles or screws to reattach.

The rubber part of the door grab handle is attached to the grab handle as one piece except for the trim piece that you can remove depending on the trim options of your car. Unfortunately to remove the door pull you need to drill out that plastic welds and then when reattaching it, back together with screws. The only reason I know is my door panel has to be replaced and that’s one of the pieces aside from the door armrest that needs to be reused, which is also plastic welded and now attached with screws.

You are da best, I have no idea how you found it but if I ever get around to it I will definitely use this DIY.

I kinda wish it had a list of the part numbers I needed. I know the part for the inner grab handle, but not sure if theres anything else besides that screw

Thank you thank you

Amazon sells them for $35 each door handle and they don't have the sticky shit on them that melts. Just search inner f30 door handle. I did both my front door inner handles and they fit perfectly and I don't have to worry about them melting again. Watch the videos on YouTube on how to replace them and get an extra set of hands to help you. It makes it easier. I think all f30 have this problem

Your link will work but why not just use the correct procedure number for the front door?

For the front door, the correct procedure is found here:

As you are answering a post from 4 months ago, the OP has completed the procedure months ago.

Furthermore, if you took the time to actually look, the procedure, text and pics are identical to the link I posted.

You can speculate that the OP completed the procedure, but you really don't know that to be true.

You can also use a procedure for the wrong door if you like.
They're "identical" - except now we've correctly linked to BMW's procedure for the front door rather than their procedure for the rear door.

Too bad you did NOT read the OPs question and responded incorrectly.

He did not ask how to remove the door panel. In fact, he stated he had ALREADY DONE THAT.

No speculation needed on my part as I read the OPs post.

OP removed the outer handle trim, not the complete panel. That's how I read it.
