Sounds like serpentine drive belt idler pulley, worn bearings. Not uncommon to have them wear out around 100K or so miles.
Remove the belt and spin the pulley(s) by hand- you will be able to hear/feel if there is excessive 'play' or rough grinding type sound- that would indicate replacement. If belt is original that should also be replaced. One idler pulley is mounted on belt tensioner, check for proper tension - if tensioner has hydraulic piston it may be wearing and part of the problem. Metal spring tensioner pretty much work properly or fail completely- if that were case belt would lose all tension, that's not your issue. Good luck/Bill |

For you I have to buy a drive belt kit?
I never changed the drive belt on the car I think it's the genuine drive belt You have seen the oil just near the oil filter housing? It should be a oil gasket failure no? It's the reason why the drive belt is bad now? I have to remove the oil filter housing and change the oil gasket housing? Thks |

You have a tutto to remove the drive belt and change the idler pulley and new tensioner cause drive belt kit is composed by 1 new drive belt, 1 tensioner idler and 2 pulley
I never do this removal in my life I know I have to remove the engine front housing over the electric fan, then remove electric fan and then remove the drive belt But to remove the drive belt what I have to do?. Thks |

Now for some tech repair info, look here https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...ement/Cl9W8XCb This site is the technical reference that BMW technicians use as a guide - enter the main site with the last 7 digits of your car's VIN number here https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/ and then you can drill down into the specific sections you want to look over for instructions (drive belt); note the hot links on the page noting 'necessary preliminary work'....in other words things you need to disassemble before you do the work you're looking at doing. Your car may need the oil filter housing gasket replaced as you mentioned, I watched video again, I see some oil there - this is a common gasket (along with the valve cover gasket) that will eventually need replacement on just about every BMW engine. Hope this helps / Bill |

OK Thks I posted on 6post forum but somebody adviced me to post on f30 forum cause on the 6post a lot of people go to the dealer to fix their problems.
Ok I will try to follow the TIS, Regarding the oil filter housing gasket I see I have to remove the intake, and so I need to change all the intake gasket manifold (there are 6 gaskets for the six plus 1 larger)? What's the tool to realease clamps? I need a new clamp or I can re use this one? TIS saying in the section removal oil filter housing we need a special tool to realease a clamp(170253 bmw tool) https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...s-n20/HjUoZjgW It's this tool? https://www.amazon.com/Pliers-Clic-R.../dp/B07F8W7QNM Regarding the belt drive kit I need this one https://www.hubauer-shop.de/en/set-b...282449731.html Regarding the oil filter housing gasket I need these two gaskets https://www.hubauer-shop.de/en/carpa...5&filter_fv_id[114465][]=11446504&filter_fv_id[114465][]=11446505&value_conjunction[114465]=0&filter_price_min=&filter_price_max=&filter_url= en/carparts/6er-parts-catalog/6-coupe/lw31-f13-n55/640i-coupe-engine-lw31/lw31-114465-oelvers/&language=en&cPath=3_670_665_53702_5370211_5370211 4465 Perhaps change only the drive belt and not the pulley or tensioner? Cause kit drive belt is expansive. What do you think? Thks Last edited by hart07; 01-11-2020 at 11:50 PM.. |

perhaps others here can chime in. I think there may be shortcut on filter housing that does not require intake mfld removal.
belt/pulleys: you should remove belt and inspect each idler for smooth operation....the bearings eventually wear out, replace any that are worn along with new belt. you have car apart, do all needed repairs and maintenance at same time and not have to touch car again for quite a while. |

Hello Bill Thks
Yes I would like don't remove the intake to access oil filter housing gasket You have an idea to get a shortcut? Regarding the pulley I have to inspect them and just unscrew them if necessary with torx tool. Regarding the tensioner I don't remove it, you think it would be ok? Thks |

Pulleys/tensioner: you're correct; the tensioner is likely OK, but you do want to spin each pulley and listen for noise (grinding sound = bearings worn) and feel if they spin smoothly or feel 'gritty' / 'rough' - if bearings are good condition they should spin w/little noise and very smoothly. If you take the oil filler cap off, to hear the vacuum exhaust (into the engine), you'll note if it has the same pulse or rhythm. |
