BMW Advanced Car Eye 2.0 Installation Costs

Just a note.
I purchased and had installed by local dealer.
Charged £525 to fit it. Then I swapped my F30 for an i3s.
Charged £158 to take out =Total now £683.00.
Advised that it would be £474 to fit in i3s = Total now £1,157

When I have rightly questioned this I am advised that the technician has to route the cable through the wiring loom. I have asked if it could be strapped to the loom to save time. Answer was no as this technique may attract creaks and rattles.

I would have liked to have been informed of this at point of sale, but advised that this is not policy.

Just wanted people to be aware at this, in my opinion, high cost.

NOTE; I have not had installed in the i3s. Just wanted filks to be aware of what I think are excessive installation costs when it can effectively be done in an hour.

Thanks.

Crazy. You can buy one for £499 fitted. Leave the old one in the car you sold and have a brand new one fitted for £499 again!!

Cheers for making us aware - those costs are pretty crazy.

I paid £500 fitted for the ACE 2.0 in my last car, an F30, but sold the car last week with it still fitted. I did consider asking what the dealer would charge to move it from one car to the next, but as the new one is just a 2 year lease, I thought I would go for a cheaper option this time - probably get Halfords to fit one for a slightly more reasonable £30!

Agreed, this is what BMW wanted me to do but £998 for a dash cam!!!

All I wanted was the hardware but could not even buy a loom.

Point I wanted folk to be aware of if the labour BMW charge for running a bit of cable that Halfords takes an hour [£60] to do.

Should have said I have not had it fitted to the i3s. Just have the £525 to fit £158 to take out = £683.00 paid and the hardware in my possession.

This is what I am going to do.

Like said just wanted folk to be aware of what I think are the excessive dealer installation costs.

No sure why you'd even want to buy that one, hands down one of the most ugliest, bulky dash cams there is

It certainly isn't the smallest, particularly the rear camera, but you may be thinking of the original BMW Advanced Car Eye, which was particularly clunky rather than the 2.0 version?

I would have gone for BlackVue or Thinkware, but I was put off by the reports of the rear camera blocking/interfering with the car's DAB antenna. So the ACE 2.0 was a way of ensuring that it would be BMW's responsibility to get it to work, instead of having to faff around myself, or face different companies blaming each other.

With hindsight I'm still not sure that it was the right (or wrong) choice. My next car is a 2 year lease though, so I will go for something cheaper and get Halfords to install.
