Smoke Test
Is there any way to DIY this? I'm looking for a potential small vacuum leak. Not throwing any codes. Changed my battery, coils, fixed an exhaust leak at downpipe. But still a slightly rough idle persists more than I like.
Before I take it back to the shop - anyone have any areas I should check - regarding the intake/manifold/housing/gaskets/etc? The rough idle started after some spirited driving about a month ago, once I exited the highway and came to idle. Last edited by floridaorange; 12-30-2019 at 09:25 AM.. |

My own DIY smoke test equipment consists of an old garden pesticide sprayer, rubber glove and smoke emitter cartridges. Make a hole to one of the fingers of the glove and tape the sprayer hose there. Then disassemble the car intake side from somewhere suitable and stretch the regular opening of the glove there. Seal with something if needed.
First before smoke see if the system keeps pressure (glove keeps inflated), if it does then no need for smoke. If it leaks then put smoking cartridges in the sprayer, add pressure and see where it comes out. |

The green one liter bottle simulates intake and if there is no leak the glove looks like that even if you leave it there for a while. |
