N55 left in the dust
So I just wanted to have a little talk about the engine does anyone think the N55 is being left behind due to the B58 making better power. Yes theres ways to get that lovely 1000hp in the N55 but stores don't seem to have nearly anything for the N55 engine and I feel B58 parts are growing rapidly anyone else think so as well.

I dont get the point of this thread, but i will say that "stores don't seem to have nearly anything" for the N55 is simply incorrect. There is huge aftermarket support for the N55... everything from FBO to turbo upgrades, fueling updates, meth, etc.
B58 support is indeed growing rapidly, especially due to the Supra, and it has a higher power celing with FBO compared to the N55 (especially later B58 with the good HPFP), but that's to be expected. It's called progress. |

The point of the thread is just to hear about the market really. I want the N55 to grow and be something but it seems the community is almost over stepping the N55 yes there's some things out there but no tremendous ways to get my hp or increase the reliability of the car yes you can get a closed deck block and switch to the m235 crank to fix the crank bending issues that come up around 620 wheel but its nothing like a fuel pump that's actually at a more reasonable cost or actual sound changing things.

In amylase modding is usually done on cars which are within or just outside the warranty period. Owners of vehicles outside the warranty period must budget for repairs so the market is smaller. .

If you want to make over 700whp then you should probably be looking at a different engine platform.

WTF thread...
The B58 is very likely a better engine, that shouldn't surprise anyone. It makes more power, it makes more power up high in the rev range, it's smoother, and yes the aftermarket is growing for it. However, the aftermarket for N54 and N55 cars is already big. If you really want to make 2 or 3 the power vs factory you'll need to rebuild the entire engine. This isn't abnormal. You could also do an LS swap.

The n55 is still incredibly popular. If you go on YouTube almost every 335 video is an f30. The b58 is however popular and getting popular but that's what happens when new cars come out. Couldn't not expect it. I personally would LOVE to grab a b58 but I don't want a car payment lol.

I think we all know the B58 engine is a lot better with gaining power and yes sadly the engine does need a rebuild I'm not planning on going past stage 2H hp I would like to keep it somewhat reliable. I'm planning on getting a G82 M4 at one point not looking to buy one to soon just incase of problems but once I get it I'm going to build my 435i hopefully by that time the market will have grown even more.

B58 is a better starting point, bigger turbo, stronger HPFP. I would say a Pure turbo stg2 & hpfp n55 would be pretty potent.

Not sure how much GROWTH there will be in the aftermarket support for the N55, just likely lower prices on parts and mods, largely attributable to supply and demand. As the N55 is phased out, owners of said platform will largely have already done to it what they want...and with no new N-series engine being produced, the market will only get smaller. Even comparing parts prices between N54 and N55 platforms shows the older engine is generally cheaper to mod/support.
In that same vein, you don't really see a lot of new stuff coming out for the N54. It just makes less and less sense for the aftermarket to invest a lot of R&D on an engine platform that has been or is being phased out. Same will likely go for the N55. On the other hand, the B-series engines are a growing platform (= more business potential, better market plan for aftermarket companies).

huh? did they not just come out with a new HPFP and another one on the way? pure stage 2 redesigning their turbo (so I've read)? a new downpipe came out (another no CEL gaurantee one). and tuning platforms MHD and BM3 are still supporting updates? I see plenty of support still for the N55

The biggest issues is that "OMGBIGNUMBERS" come with deeper pockets and more expensive (///M) cars.
BM3 and MHD have really been focusing on these cars, check their IG. All M3/4s and New B58 cars because that's where the money is
