Expect this to rise more next year, after all they have to claim all the furlong payments back some how. I keep reading all these reports and listening to work colleagues whose partners have been affected and I think its not just the council who are behaving like this. Firms laying 50% of the workforce off and the other 50% being given new contracts stating they will be paid 80% its a fricken travesty.
Wife was talking to someone today who is getting a 10K payment because she cant go to her place of work as she is self employed, she pays less than that in rent so she's using it to pay off a tax bill. The school she works for are restarting her payments but she can claim the 80% back off the government and she wondered why we looked at her with a 'Feck me' look and left. She is also doing work online and being paid. If the councils keep on making it so easy to get away with then someones gotta pay in the end :mad0 260:: mad0260: |

Also don't forget gold plated pension liabilities for council staff. In London it's around 30-40% of payments. Good luck finding this out in the glossy brochure explaining where the money goes.

Well that's what they signed up for and many if not most would have been low paid. Obviously some weren't so I guess that's who you're having a dig at

Council Front line services will be cut at the drop of a hat sometimes to make a political statement and blame govt cuts bit like the SNP - blame Westminster. Cut the back room I say. I just don't think council management live in the real world or more likely they don't have to. 500 bosses earn more than the prime minister. Madness |

well a lot of use in the private sector signed up for gold plated pensions but they were removed (in my case in 2001) because the commercial sector couldnt afford them. The council bleat on about being hard up but still can afford them because they prioritise them over services... perhaps...

Councils are adept at wasting money
Birmingham city council spent barrow loads of money improving the road system only to later limit the no of cars going into central Birmingham

I work for a council. The irreconcilable problem is you cant have the executive (business side) and the members (political side) in harmony. Ultimately we are a political body, and what the politicians need/want to curry favour will always win over practical common sense.

CPI inflation is nowhere near Health and Social care inflation. I think the latter is around 8%, it certainly is around that for healthcare, that will be the main reason for increase. Hence why the NHS is crying for more cash despite the government paying around 3% increases per annum.
