Those with gloss black splitters

I tried to order a matte splitter, but the seller has sent me gloss twice now; this is what I get for ordering off ebay, but its the only place that sells the style i want.

Im at the point, where I may just keep them but wanted to see others experience with regards to how they hold up to debris. Does your gloss black splitter chip or get swirl marks pretty easy? This is my main concern for now installing them. I dont want to deal with a bunch of chips in the paint after a few months.

Are these gloss black in vinyl wrap? Or gloss black abs? A trick you can do to keeping ABS gloss black ones shiny is tire shine. If it is just wrap, I would try removing the wrap or get them wrapped in satin or matte clear vinyl.

Hope that helps!

Gloss black abs. So you put tire shine on it? Seems odd. Do they chip alot?

Wrap them with 3m clear bra. No more chipping and protects them

I have a gloss black front lip, if it is not painted with a durable paint + clear coat on top it will fade over time. Tire shine is applied after every wash so that the plastic does not look faded and lose its wet gloss look. This is a technique a lot of people use for faded or chipped gloss black abs.

Otherwise just have it vinyl wrapped. My side skirt extensions are abs plastic wrapped in gloss black for the top side of it and those I will just apply a light coat of wax when the whole car is washed. It protects the vinyl from dirt sticking as easily...I don't get much debris or chips on splitters (running a less aggressive wheel offset will help with this.

That is the cheaper option in terms of getting it done or reapplied. Paint is still susceptible to chips. At least with a wrap you can peel off and put on fresh wrap whenever it gets bad.

Do they make clear bra you can buy in just plain sheets? I thought it was alway custom cut for the car.

Custom cut is only necessary if wrapping a whole body car with curved surfaces for easier application. For something like skirt extensions, after market lips, etc a skilled installer would just use a hand-cut section of material to apply and trim off the excess. I am not sure exactly what the piece you are trying to protect looks like. But on pretty straight or flat edges is not hard to wrap with hand-cut material. You can order sheets of clear, matte, satin vinyl...same as regular vinyl without pigment or dye.

I'd wrap them matte or satin black if you didn't want the gloss finish. If you're looking at getting them wrapped or clear bra'd, a buddy of mines has a shop and does excellent work

I wonder if I can tackle wrapping them. I dont think it would be that hard.

FWIW - I've got through 3 front lip splitters in 2 years on my 435i. It never really chipped. I had the semi-gloss polypropylene and the more matte finish of ABS. But like others have mentioned, skip the paint and use a vinyl wrap. Vinyl won't fade, takes abrasions and hits fairly well, and is easy to apply or repair. It's just a sticker.

I just wrapped my carbon fiber splitters in gloss black.

It is tough man, but worth the trouble if you have alot of free time. As far as durability, i put some coat for vinyl i forgot the name... and will be using meguiars ceramic wax to get more protection on it.. should be good for 2-3 years! Cost me $20 to wrap and lots of time.
