'14 AW 335i xDrive Build (F30)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
FINAL UPDATE: I jumped the gun on my mod list and pulled the trigger on a 2019 M2C to replace this car. I ended up returning all the parts that I just purchased, but would have gone with KW Comforts, Remus exhaust, BM3, FTP, and VRSF.

I fell in love with the alpine white with coral red interior, and originally bought a 2014 328i xDrive. The 328 is a great car, however I found myself hating the sound of the engine. It sounded harsh compared to the E90 straight 6 I loved for over 10 years. (The MPE exhaust sounded wonderful!)

I wanted to get another 6 cylinder, so the 335, 340, and M3 were my options. I wanted to keep the xDrive however, as this is a daily driver and every winter I drive in 1 - 3 inches of snow. So sadly the M3 was out. (I even had my wife's blessing...)

Finding a 335 or 340 in alpine white with coral red proved to be challenging! After checking autotrader for a few months, one finally popped up for sale in Chicago, ugh, 1,500 miles away!

After negotiating a good trade-in value and sale price, I began a 3,000+ mile road trip to pick up my new car, sight unseen! The reassuring thing was it was being sold by a BMW dealership, was still under factory and CPO warranty, and vin decoder verified all the options I wanted. It was identical to my 328, minus the high beam assist.

Originally, I drove the 328 back-to-back with a 335. Perhaps I was being cautious in the winter months, or the dealership had the 335 on training wheels, but I can now say that there is a big noticeable difference in power between the two! Again, the 328 is a great car, but the 335 is what I unknowingly wanted all along.

I'll post mods as they come. Until then, here she is post wash and with the 437m wheels. (Suspension hasn't completely settled yet)

Replies Welcomed!

With regards to a tune, reliability is #1 as this is a daily driver and will never see a track. If the chance of having an issue / failure with mod3, JB4, or other aftermarket is > 3%, I would rather keep the warranty at the cost of extra power. My goal is to maximize power while retaining reliability and smooth power delivery. What do you recommend?

If the chance of getting an issue is > 3% any company would go bankrupt.

BM3 will offer the smoothest power delivery but the dealerhsip will easily catch it and you are risking getting your car flagged.

A stage 1 piggy might be the best option for you.

You can do Jb stage 1 and remove it before your visit or get the Dinan tune and you wont have to worry about removing it before your visit

How is the smoothness and power of a piggyback compared to JB4? I would never use any of the map features as it's always running 91 octane, but would be willing to spend a little extra if it's worthwhile. Considering any tune under $1200.

I assume you are asking about a stage 1 piggyback ... JB4 is going to be the smoothest piggy option. That being said the stage 1 tunes power delivery is pretty smooth.

Might want to rehost your images. I'm seeing photobucket errors.

Was wondering if your 437ms are OEM. I thought they only made them in 9" and 10" widths not 9.5?

What is the offset on the 9.5 up front? Trying to figure out how to run 255/35 and 9.5s square.

My wheels are replicas for the F30 from OEM Concepts. I went with their recommended offset for a square setup in 19 x 9.5. Everything is flush and looks great! (I still need a drop though as the xDrive rides high)

How's having 9.5" on the front working out? I have a nearly identical car to yours minus the red interior & have been looking at purchasing 437m replicas just like yours but am struggling with what size to go with. At first I wanted 8.5/9.5 staggered but finding <1% variance with all-season tires that don't stretch is proving to be difficult. So then I thought screw it, I'll just go to 8.5" square & am trying to find the perfect tire size by looking at other people's examples. I never considered going to 9.5" square & I guess I just assumed it would be too wide in the front/affect turning.

My apologies, I have 19x8.5" ET35 square, NOT 9.5". I'll update my original post. I have had zero issues.
