MPE Installed Today

My MPE was installed by my local shop today. I have to say....I'm quite disappointed at the moment. The exhaust doesn't sound hardly any different from regular...maybe some more burbles but that's it. I'm hoping it burns in a lot...

The MPE is designed to be a only little louder than stock, when the flap is open atleast. If you want louder upgrade to a catless downpipe.

Should have just cut open your stock muffler and modified it.

Disconnect and wire the valve open - that'll make a difference all the time. Remove the little "U" clip and safety wire the valve open; leave the electrical harness connected. This only requires a 10mm combo wrench or socket, some sort of safety wire, and about 10 minutes of time.

should of went with an aftermarket then. MPE is pretty tame. Borla, Remus and AWE are the best sounding IMO.

Yeah, thats exactly what the MPE is. Nothing more... its really not going to get louder. Slightly, maybe.. but you wont really notice.

could also be the version you got, I've read here a few times that there are 2 different versions with different part #'s and one sounds quiter and less aggressive.

I went with catless downpipe and stock exhaust. After adding the MPE its sounds amazing and get compliments often!

That being said I was looking for a valved system that uses the OEM controller and didn't want any drone. Plus I'm not looking for anything loud since I prefer the sleeper vibe!!

Yeah, Im catless with stock mid pipe and the valvetronic design system. If the valve is closed and im not in the throttle its still fairly stealthy. Since most people with faster cars have loud exhaust they dont really hear me that well so I fly under the radar. I love cruising in eco and then throwing it into sport and taking off.

Evolution Racewerks catless downpipe. No video at the moment. Yes it does smell but only when idling with windows down and stationary for more than 5mins or so. But honestly smell tolerance is different and unique to each individual. I personally love the smell of gasoline and have never had any complaints about it.

OP, the MPE alone isn't going to do it.
As I have already posted, I have the MPE and a Fabspeed catted down pipe and it sounds excellent. Aggressive but still worthy of the car; i.e. not cheap and immature. Still sometimes too loud for me.
If you're looking for the ricer fart can noise; if you're an attention whore: just go to a muffler shop and run a straight pipe to the MPE.
Cheap and sounds just as "good" as more expensive options.

I honestly think you went about this in the wrong order. A good DP really wakes the car up. DP then exhaust.

Never ever going for a ricer sound. I would keep it stock before doing that. A catted down pipe is probably next. I've heard good arguments for catted and non catted. And I would have added an exhaust even with a DP.

Personally I would prefer a catted DP but only if it would add a decent amount of sound. If it doesn't add much, I won't waste the money.

Go catless DP, I just did the same as you on my 335i. MPE installed, very small sound difference, so bad...
So I installed a DP and, thanks god, the engine was finally here ! Not too much, just perfect.

Not sure what you mean about "waste the money" - if anything, the exhaust is a "waste of money" because it does not add any performance. The DP will actually add a noticeable improvment in performance. The level of sound increase will depend on catted vs catless, and to some extent brand of catted.

As discussed, smell is highly subjective. Some people like it, some people tolerate it, other people despise it. Before going catless, i would recommend experiencing it for yourself from someone who has a catless car. If you have never smelled a catless car before, think quad/atv/lawnmower. The smell will be strong, but of course there are certain conditions you will not experience it (e.g., driving on the freeway). If you drive with kids/wife/coworkers, catless might not be for you, even if you can tolerate it yourself. Also there are emissions considerations.

I totally understand where the OP is coming from. Even my borla atak exhaust sounded disappointing on its own. When I paired it with a Fabspeed catted DP it came alive.

I had the MPE put on my 2015 428 Grand coupe in Oct and it was the best purchase i have done since i bought the car. Sound is not as loud as i thought it would be after the first start up/ Even after running it i thought maybe it would get a little loudy but never did. i think i will have to get a mid pipe/ downPipe for that
