I just ordered BM3 for my 2016 340i and I'm on the fence about getting the xHP transmission flash to go along with it, is the included BM3 transmission flash comparable?

The BM3 transmission flash is only for the S55/N55 and not for the B58. You definitely want to get xHP especially once you go BM3 Stg 2 or above.

I'd still personally go with xHP since the BM3 tcu flash only removes TQ limiters. xHP is a comprehensive tcu flash that allows you to adjust launch control and control shift points in addition to a bunch of other features. Once you go xHP stg 3 it's pretty hard to go back to anything else.

Well it looks like its xHP for me then, and if 2016 B58 made you think I had an N55/S55 then you need to give your head a shake lol.
I'm deployed right now just north of Iceland so I've haven't been able to install and play with the BM3 tune yet, if so I probably would have figured out that the trans flash is only for the n55/s55.

New to all this, can a xHP TCU flash be paired with a BM3 ECU flash?

The deal is you said "BM3 transmission flash". They don't have a flash for the B58, only the N55/S55. The latest BM3 ECU flash disables the torque limiter though.

Does XHP Stage 1 offer any benefits aside from removing torque limiters which Bm3 already does now? I can't find anything that lists the features of each of the XHP maps.

They increase boost pressures, make shifts faster, etc. I think their PC/mobile
software tells you when you try to select a map, but not sure if it's listed on the website.

XHP Stage 1 is basically stock, it only removes torque limiter and adds the gear you are in while in drive mode. XHP Stage 2 and 3 change a lot more as they increase line pressures, change shifting points and are more aggressive overall when upshifting and downshifting.
