340i: Pilot Super Sports on rear...add PS4S on the front?

Currently have a 340i with M Sport and Track Handling Pack.

I just threw a set of rear tires on my car about 4 months ago and now my fronts need to be replaced.

Tire Rack has the newer Michelin PS4S on sale. I planned on going with the traditional Michelin Pilot Super Sports...but they are an older tire and a few bucks more than the newer PS4S.

Am I crazy to mix tires or should I just get the Michelin PSS and call it a day?

Figured I'd ask the experts.

If you do mix, I'd slap the newer/better tires on the rears and move the older tires up front. You never want more grip on the front.

You're RWD im assuming, so at least make sure you are on the same tires in the rear. People will say it must be the same all around but you should be fine. If your tires are staggered size then just keep the newer ones upfront, but if you are running square, toss the newer ones in back.

Since his first pair only have a few months on them, it's not going to make much of a difference, however, if you're changing 2 tires, you always put the better ones on the back. If your front end has more grip than the rear, the rear has the potential to swing around during braking and hard cornering. Since his car is RWD, it's even more critical to have the best grip in the back. Understeer and front end push won't bite you as much as losing your tail.

You will be fine. The 4Ss have better wet grip, but the differences in the dry are not big enough to worry about what's in the rear or the front, especially if you aren't tracking.
