"Bonus Miles" reset?

I have had this happen multiple times....I'll have just filled up w/gas a day or two earlier and have built up around 6 or 7 blue bonus miles in ECO mode. Suddenly, I'll go out to drive my car the next time, and upon startup, the bonus miles are reset to zero again. I know this sounds very trivial and hardly worth mentioning....but my question (however trivial this may sound) is....why?

It just makes me scared that 50k miles down the road, other more serious random electrical "gremlins" will start presenting themselves. Anyone else had this happen or know what's causing it?

It is not a "gremlin". This is how it is set up. When you refuel, it triggers the miles to reset.

That's my point in writing this post...it does it on its own WITHOUT refueling, resetting the odometer, resetting the trip computer, etc, etc. It's completely random.

So anyone else had these happen? If so, anyone know what causes it.

It is not a bug. It is a feature.

It simply represents the extra miles you achieved on that particular tank of gas while using Eco Pro.

Edit: I wrote this before you posted your clarification post. No, it should not reset randomly. I also know no way to reset it other than by refueling.

Does it WITHOUT refueling (see above).

Just a thought. Are you using the same key?

I thought all F30s restart in Comfort mode by default, which erases all ECO Pro data. At least mine does ...

My ECO settings or stored values are not reset at startup or when switching between eco and comfort...

The only way that the extra miles can get to 0 without resetting is when you step on the throtle real hard in eco mode. Then the bonus miles will finally decrease to 0.

Nope....they reset without switching keys and without stomping on the throttle (and without refueling or resetting trip computer as mentioned earlier).

Regarding the car always starting in Comfort, that is true....but when I switch to Eco, my blue miles are almost always the same as they were the previous time I drove....they are not usually reset. But like I said, every once in a while now, they just reset on their own out of the blue. I know it's silly to even mention something like this....but then again, why does it randomly do that?

Reminds me of when my satellite radio selection on my iDrive display randomly highlights another station out of the no where, even though the music itself doesn't change.....again....why??

Weird...mine never resets the ECO Pro miles upon start up in comfort (except for in the occasional aforementioned situation I mentioned earlier). The randomness is what is strange to me.

On my car, eco-pro "bonus" miles are retained until refueling. I don't know if they are key-specific as I am the only driver and I always use the same key. But I have noticed that it is possible for the number of bonus miles to go down, depending on driving conditions. (I don't know if net negative numbers are possible -- I've never seen one displayed.)

When you drive in other modes, you lose those earned miles.

But you don't lose them instantly.

I had racked around 7 bonus miles over a two day period of driving in mostly ECO Pro. I pulled in my garage, shut the car off, came back out an hour later to run a few errands, and upon restarting my car, the bonus miles were back to zero. Mind you, I had NOT reset anything on my dash (trip odometer, trip computer, etc, etc)....it magically reset on its own.

Normal?

Happened to me a few weeks ago too. Not sure if I just lost them because of driving style in other modes or not, but I had about 6 miles and they were gone next time I went into ECO.

On another note, I drove an entire tank on ECO one time and only got about 17 miles out of it. Hardly worth it in my opinion so I don't use ECO anymore at all. I figure if I'm going to drive a $45,000 vehicle, I'm going to drive it like it's meant to be driven - $5.00 savings per tank be damned!

I don't know, so just asking. When the Eco miles went to zero, did your miles remaining go up? This would make since because the Eco miles are telling you how you're remaining miles have improved by driving in Eco.

Have had this happen to me at the beginning when I used ECO PRO out of curiosity. From 3.5 it'd randomly go down to 2.4 or something the next morning. But haven't used the mode much and this was discussed earlier along with other software flaws like gear #s not popping up appropriately when down shifting. Germans are not the greatest software (stress) testers! Car is otherwise awesome I presume?

My sentiments exactly. I'd switch to ECO mode only if the next gas station is further than the range I have left.

No, miles didn't go up when the 7+ ECO miles reset. But, yeah....car is awesome in almost every other regard.
