Yep I tend to cover myself in insect repellent etc when out walking with our dog.
We go through woods, streams etc and can get bitten all over. It's not just horse flies there are plenty other biting fuckers out there. Reminds me I must put some on. |

I got bit on the top of my foot with one years ago. Didn’t think much of it until next day when I woke up and my foot was all swollen up. Couldn’t put my foot down as all the skin was tight. Ended up in A & E. For years after the spot were I’d been bitten would go red and itch.

Had hundreds of the bastards biting everyone at the airfield last week, discovered it's not a great idea to be around when the big grass cutter is doing it's thing.

I’ve had a few horseflies land on my arms/legs.
You really notice them before they dig in, and are fairly easily knocked down/stood on... so far. If you flick them they seem to be stunned easily. So the benefit is that they’re slow. As per article, it says scratching increases risks. I assume that’s under nail bacteria? Shirley best to just clean wound, antiseptic, then cover with a bandage? Picking any cut with nails sounds like a recipe for an infection. |
