Great, another squeaky M Sport brakes thread. Doesn't anyone SEARCH any more?
Bottom line - "Squeaking/squealing" brakes is actual a vibrating pad that happens to hit the resonant frequency of the rotor. A cleaning and application of pad grease will rectify it. It IS normal for aggressive pads like those on the M Sport package. It becomes most prevalent when the pads have not been properly bedded in and/or there's an excessive amount of pad material (i.e. glazing) on the rotors. If you're not driving your car hard enough to get the brakes up to temperature, you probably don't need M Sport brakes. At least not for anything other than aesthetics. |

Same Experience
Mine are like a train stopping...every time without fail. The dealership even replaced them for me and the problem stayed the same. Now I keep the car in storage because I can't sell it and its too embarrassing to drive. This will be my last BMW.

Get the equivalent Brembo pads in and the noise will be gone

Mine never let out a peep, but my pads are properly greased. BavarianFanatic's diagnosis was pretty close. Squeak is caused by high friction metal to metal contact, in this case the metal of the pads and that of the calipers. Eliminate the high friction with brake grease and you eliminate the squeak. This has been well known by mechanics for 50 years, since disc brakes were first introduced. I guess today's mechanics can't figure it out because it doesn't appear on an ISTA-D scan.

Grease them. Then sell the car because they won't squeal. Buy whatever you will love and drive for the joy. GL.

I have the same problem on my 2018 340i M Performance 1 and 2 that I purchased from the dealer last week. I was told to brake hard and it will take the dust out but that has not helped at all. I have been bugging my sales guy about this issue almost everyday!

Dang so this has been a problem since 2016. I thought I was the only one. I replaced the rotors and brake pads with hawk pads and it helped, but still get high squeaking during some hard brakes. Pretty damn embarrassing.

I’ve taken them apart and lubricated/greased everything and they still squeal. This spring I’m going to swap to Hawk pads as many that have switched don’t have the issue anymore.

ITT: semi-metallic pads doing semi-metallic pads things
If squealing is bothering you because you don't drive the car hard enough to use the M-brakes as intended, consider switching to ceramic pads at the cost of pedal feel. |

Mine started right on day 1 on the drive home from the dealer - 10 kms on the odometer. Still happening with 35,000 kms. Asked about it each time it’s been in for service and they said it’s “normal”. It really only happens 30% of the time when coming to a slow stop - my luck always pulling up to a drive through window to deafen the staff lol!!
