Over Torqued my Spark Plugs
Hello everyone,
I recently changed my coils and plugs and accidentally mixed up 23nm with foot lb's. I torqued the plugs to 23lbs. No drivetrain malfunction or noticable issues other then a very slight shudder when cold. Cant tell if it already did so before. Is it ok for me to loosen the plugs and re torque to 17 foot lb's or do I need to get a new crush washer or new plugs altogether? Also wondering if you guys think 23lbs is enough to cause damage or if i'm just being nuerotic. Thanks |

I do have the original plugs I replaced, nothing wrong with them. But I suppose everyone is sort of right. Any chance I damage the engine by having the extra torque?

Too much torque could strip the threads in the head. If you'd done so you'd probably know by now. If that happens there are fixes, but it requires pulling the head, so cheap it's not.

No definitely fine on that department. I suppose ill just let it be for now. Luckily ordered from FCP Euro so can just have new ones sent at no cost.
Plan of action is drive on these until new ones comes. |

I wouldn't touch it, or return them, 23ft/lbs is perfectly fine.
Most mechanics don't even use a torque wrench and do it by feel and 6ft/lbs isn't going to hurt anything. You'd probably have to be in the 40ft/lbs range to strip it
