B58 - For those of a mechanical persuasion

Absolutely fascinating to watch - and he says this engine is 'simple'.

Great vid - thanks for posting.

Plenty of strength in that engine, especially the closed deck block.

Haha. However, I think it's only software tuning that Toyota has modified. The engine and all hardware components are the same, iirc

Ah, I thought I had read somewhere that they had remanufactured some components to meet their own tolerances/quality standards.

...because as standard they didn’t meet Toyota’s manufacturing tolerances. Doesn’t say a lot for BMW standards as the ‘premium’ brand in the partnership...

I've seen this mentioned a few time but done think I've seen any official sources.

If they have changed 300 components then it's no longer the same engine.

On an individual level BMWs are more premium than Toyotas but Toyota is almost 3 times the size BMW. Premium means nothing when comparing companies as a whole

That's pretty epic. I do love a good tear down video. I must say, the Supra in black looks pretty nice too.

Very interesting video to watch, especially how they've coated the rod bearings to mitigate excessive wear from the start stop. I'd also be interested to see a tear down of the 'BMW' B58. If Toyota have changed over 300 it'd be interesting to see what they've changed to meet their standards over BMW. The N47 engine was notorious for its timing chain problem but generally BMWs engines have been bullet proof.
