Why would it be for free? Software updates are never fast, can require hours to download completely, and take up shop and bay time for something that isn’t even necessary. They don’t just do this for you because you request it. If it’s not directly related to an issue and the car isn’t calling for it for a fix and you still want an update .....well you have to pay for it. Makes perfect sense.
