Carbon Fiber Manufacturing
Being curious.
I just finished the bIsForBuild series with the LS Huracon, and I think the attempt was to make their own carbon fiber body panels, which didn't end up working out as the hoped. This was the first time I've seen how carbon fiber parts are made, by making a mold and layering the sheets. Question: is all CF parts made by hand like this? I know BMW sells CF, so I am having a hard time believing they do this by hand, being it's very labor intensive? Maybe they do? * Anyone care to share their experiences making CF parts? |

Most people and small companies are going to make CF by hand...they can't afford the autoclaves and machines to weave their own CF like BMW does. I have watched many videos on making CF super cars and a lot/most CF panels are laid by hand in layers in a mould and then put in the autoclave to cure. It is a very interesting process. I am a CF nerd though.
