Does changing the downpipe require a new gasket? I searched but could not find and answer. Most recommend replacing the clamps but not gasket.

Are you referring to the O-rings? If so, I believe they're reusable.

Yes. At the top where the turbo meets the Downpipe.

Most find no CEL with the Fabspeed Sport Cat downpipe and the HJS Catted option. They won't guarantee emissions, although possible.

Are you serious? Have you ever had any work done on any car ever? Seriously though, What were you expecting, $50? FWIW around here it would be AT LEAST $2-300, they're running a business not a charity.

Also wondering if there is any update from VRSF for the catted downpipe. I am mostly concerned about revisions due to the fitment/O2 wire length issue, but any update on the emissions aspect would be useful as well.

VRSF still lists it as in stock, so I am wondering if those are the pre-revision ones that would have the O2 wire length issue?

Yes I am as serious as a heart attack. Most have said it is under an hour to install. That should be no more than $100. I like to work on my own car so why waste money on a shop?

Fair enough, I like to work on my car too, in fact I just installed my VRSF catless DP last week, it's a pain in the ass without a lift. It's a 1 hour MINIMUM job if done right, definitely more if you've never done the job before. That is unless you're not counting time to get car in air, remove 900 8mm bolts to remove belly pan, swap o2 sensors, button everything back up, etc.

Regardless there's going to be a minimum cost that makes a job worth while for a reputable shop to put your car up on the lift. If you become a regular maybe they'll make exceptions.

Yeah I get it. Shops are there to make money. I just figure I can do it myself (most of the time) and save money and enjoy the process. I love hearing when someone actually works on their own car these days. It seems most don't want to figure out how the car works anymore. They figure its too complicated. I figure they make too much money and don't value it as much as I do.

So for those of you who have followed my previous suspension thread, you may already know I installed my VRSF catted downpipe last Friday at the Stance Shop in Astoria, Queens. I didn't get to drive the car home until last night due to the suspension issues I was dealing with, but now she's back and better than ever.

So let's start with Tiago@VRSF. Tiago got my product shipped out to me way faster than I expected. Packaging was nicely done and the product itself looked great. Love the VRSF logo on the downpipe. Adds to the aesthetics. & I've read all about the poor fitment issues all the N20/26 platforms are having with the downpipes. But there was not one fitment issue we ran into with my n55.

My mechanic did the install in record timing, I feel like it couldn't have been longer than 40 min. Once it was on the lift, he started taking off the OEM cat. The only issue we ran into was that the nut on the C clamp was rusted on. He put the blowtorch to it in hopes that would loosen it up, but it actually snapped in half due to corrosion. Luckily for me he had an extra one laying around the shop because I didn't order a new one with the VRSF downpipe.

First impressions: The note of the exhaust was changed pretty drastically IMO(for the better). Car sounds way more aggressive now and not so tame. I don't understand why BMW manufactures their cars so restrictive, but none the less the catted downpipe gave me the tone I was looking for. Burbles are more pronounced and when I close the valve on the MPE, car sounds stock again.
As for the drive, I feel like there's a lot less back pressure now. Car feels way more responsive. Can't wait to throw JB4 on it and reap some real power gains.
Oh yeah, and no CEL!

Enjoy the pics and the vid

so just to be clear u had the M performance exhaust system already, and this is what it sounds like paired with a VRSF catted downpipe?

sidenote, keith is the man

Is this the latest revision of VRSF's catted DP for the EWG N55? The one from 10/05, I believe.

Thinking of switching to a catted DP from catless.
