Well it would appear I need to do this now. I don't have swirls. I have a couple scuffs, probably from grabbing that part with my left hand and my wedding ring hit it.

Griot's Garage products are excellent for this and all polishing/sealing/waxing tasks. They even have a line of 3", 5", and 6" long-throw orbitals and foam and microfiber polishing pads. They're a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Been using them since 2001 with great results.

I have all Griots polishes and pads....what do you suggest? Black pad with the finishing polish?

Yep, that would be my 1st choice. Black foam is less aggressive than the orange polishing pad. I usually follow that with paint sealant and then carnauba over that. Lasts at least 6 months and really protects.

Has anyone tried covering the pillars with a protective film (Xpel/3M)?

Another option I'm considering is just replacing the part...it's like $30.

After trying for a while to keep my B pillars from finger prints and swirl marks etc, I gave up. I now always wrap the B pillars with dry CF film on all my rides past and present. On my current F30 with the CF mirror covers and rear boot spoiler, it actually matches well.
Takes the stress off taking care of them.

Because these are just plastic remember to use little to no pressure when cleaning these parts also when drying too. I usually dab the drying cloth or in a straight line as to avoid leaving swirl marks . also I wash& dry in straight lines as well , going in circular motion is what make the swirl affects . Straight lines don't show up as bad. And are easy to remove with cleaner/ wax.

,
I just took delivery of a new wax car product : Prima car care and Byron's Leather care.
I have to yet used the products ...any feed back would be appreciated .
If interested you can get them on bimmian.com

Since this thread was refreshed...

I ordered a replacement just because it seemed like that would be the fastest route to getting a pristine swirl free piece. I was then going to cover it with 3M film. When the part arrived from an online BMW parts dealer, the damn piece was scuffed 10x worse than the one on my car. It didn't come with the protective film on the shiny part, like every other polished plastic piece does. I returned the item to the vendor (another painful story) and asked for a replacement. Out of stock of course. When new ones arrived, they said they were all like that...no protective plastic and minor handling marks/scuffs. Needless to say, if I try that route again, I'll be getting it from the parts dept in person.

I bought the MSport F30 with the black glossy trim. When I got my car, the surfaces have scratches on them. When I pointed out, they ordered and asked me to go in and replace. When I pick up the car, the black glossy rain channels were not flushed to the body anymore and fine a scratches could be seen.
I gave up but on the B pillars which is more obvious, I went to wrap them in glossy CF and no more issues. You can also wrap it glossy if CF is not your thing and problem will go away.

I just keep applying wax to them. Seems to keep them in good shape.
