Why oh why would you use hairspray.

Because someone above posted it. Using an internet forum is a great source to quickly get useful info like the OP needs, but you always need to balance it with "Don't believe everything you read on the internet."

In all honesty, it doesn't look that bad. Not worth replacing the seat IMO. Just check peoples pockets from now on before letting them enter your car. Also, from now on use leather cleaner for cleaning leather and hair spray for spraying hair.

Amen brother!

Before potentially ruining my seat (I have Coral Red also), would have at least called a leather specialist or just taken the car to them before using something like hairspray.

Also, nail polish remover removes paint! The seat is painted.

Another FYI, do not get bug spray with DEET anywhere near your car, PERIOD. It will very quickly strip the wax, clear coat, and paint off of the exterior and interior of your car.

I was going to suggest that before he uses anything to first try to dabble it somewhere non-visible. But I guess I'm too late.

It is not.

Just Google it and you should see credible info. You can also just look at the side of a can of anything with DEET.

Deep Woods OFF is the most common culprit. Even if it's sprayed first on your leg, it'll rub off on the car and eat the paint.

Also takes varnish off of wood. That is from personal experience.

Some Sonax leather foam and light use of a magic eraser should get it out.

https://www.eshine.ca/sonax_leather_..._400ml-553.php

Haven't ever had to use the magic eraser with the Sonax yet myself, but saw it used by others to get ink marks off leather with success before.

Ok, look, Dave didn't necessarily endorse the use of hairspray. He said "Hmm, hairspray?"

This means he was guessing it COULD work.

This forum is extremely informative , just have to sort of peer review what's said; which is the purpose of the forum.

Who knew that the OP would take the hairspray comment and immediately run with it? I know he wanted to act fast, and just may have acted irrationally.

Others have offered great suggestions that I'm sure are safe and effective options.

Any organic solvents will actually do the trick. A little 70% isopropanol (rubbing alcohol) would of removed the pen mark without screwing up your coral red seats.

I have Coral Red leather in my 3er.

Zaino Z9 leather cleaner!!!!!! spray on, use a soft bristle brush (like a shoe polish brush) and gently scrub out stain.

Zaino Z10 leather protectant to keep leather in factory fresh matte look, smells great too!

HIGHLY recommend these products for leather care--I can't believe no one suggested it.

Hope this helps.

Definitely acted irrationally and would take it all back if I could--I tried alcohol first and it wasn't doing anything dabbing it, so I wiped off with water and then tried some hairspray.. it was going okay until I noticed the grain fading away leaving a black mark underneath

I use that combo on my dads car all the time. He has white leather and chews tobacco. Never has failed me.

what's up guys thought I should update you as the leather has just been fixed and I'm extremely happy with the result. it looks exactly like new and you can not tell a thing was there other than physically feeling the leather with your hand and noticing the minimal difference in the feeling of the grain. Got it done for free thanks to my cousin who works in service at Rallye.

Really awesome that you got this taken care of. More helpful if you detail what they did to fix the leather.

Future reference for others.

I'm gonna have to ask, I had a friend of mine bring it in as I'm out of state and only saw the final result
