Amazon had single quarts for some oils when I was shopping, but it was pricey that way.
I did a lot of Googling about oil and even Costco, Walmart and Amazon synthetics were highly rated. Many of them come from the same place. I didn't realize Moly Gen had flourescent properties which can be a nice feature so I may use that oil in the future. |

BMW oil filter wrench can be found in almost any auto parts store for $3-$4. The secret is that it says "Volvo" on the label but fits BMW perfectly! See photo! |

I splurged for an aluminum oil filter cap, which you can pull with a ratchet or box wrench.
https://burgertuning.com/products/bm...20-bmw-engines Part of the reason I did is that aluminum sheds heat a lot better than the OEM plastic, which might help preserve the housing gasket, notorious for giving out early and being a PITA to replace. It looks cool too, the red is the same color as the oil catch can I put in. |

As long as we are on the subject of oil changes, does anyone use FCP Euro for their oil and filters?
Do you return your used filter and oil under their Lifetime warranty? Just wondering if it's worth the hassle. Kind of makes it a one time purchase price just with a small surcharge for return postage. |

Shipping the oil is no biggy. When I do a change the old oil goes in the catch tray, and from there into the container(s) that the new oil came out of. I hose them off and take them to my local Auto Zone for free disposal, but I could just as easily put them back into the box that the oil was shipped to me in and return it. Same with the filter, after letting it drain over night and then sealing it in a sandwich bag. I haven't used FCP for oil yet, but depending on the cost of shipping I'll consider it this time. But, and it's a big but, shipping prices are out of sight. That's because thanks to the sweetheart deals that Amazon et al have wrangled out of shippers, including USPS, the price for the public is way up.

I shipped a couple in the last few months of that size. Even at less than 10 pounds they were both around $30 with UPS, and I have a business account. Needless to say I don't get Amazon's rate. I won't bother with the hassle if it only saves me 15 bucks.

All US GTs need to use the HU816X
Look at it like X= xDrive The xDrives got metal oil pans which use metal plugs. Metal plugs are reusable and only need new washers during an oil change. |

The X is the right one. If you're searching on Amazon or some other places like I was, ignore what they're telling you and use the info here. Amazon says you need the Z kit, but it's wrong. As a BMW newbie I am finding this forum invaluable for info.

The car is getting better mileage by a good 1.5 mpg. I also changed the engine air filter so that may have helped although the old one looked pretty clean.
