Due to being burlgled last week and my wife's car taken I've invested in a Disklok for my car. I remember reading a while ago about the marks they leave and sure enough, they do!

I've now fitted the new Disklok to my steering wheel on three separate occasions, resulting in three marks on the leather of the wheel! For those who are not familiar with this, it's basically a dent in the leather, across, at a radial to the centre. Now I'm writing this I'm thinking that I should have taken a pic to show...

Anyway, this is how I modified the Disklok.

I taped the jaws of the adjustable wrench to prevent marks on the Disklok. Place jaws over the area to be tweaked and then close jaws as close as possible with the thumb wheel. Then gently lever outwards to give a greater clearance. You'll have to do the same on the opposite side so that it still accommodates it. A bit at a time and it's quite easy. Now it doesn't leave marks anymore, which is nice!

I think there is also a cover you can buy that goes over the wheel?

I’ve been using the disklok steering wheel cover you can buy. That has been fine for me on the 330d and now the M140i.

I don't have a Disklok but you can get covers for your steering wheel.

I had a problem with my Stop Lock Pro marking my wheel so I bought a piece of thick leather to put around the wheel which solved it. That may work too.

Yes that’s right the cover does prevent marking, also buy the carry bag as it prevent the device opening when you are moving it from storage to use and back.

I ordered the cover at the same time as the disklok but I'm still waiting for it. Maybe the one I have just fits a bit snug; I did think, with the cover on it's going be even tighter. It's ok now I've fettled it a bit, and the cover will fit comfortably.

Bit basic I know but I keep a decent sized piece of bubblewrap folded which I place underneath the steering wheel cover before putting my Disklok on. Since doing this I've not marked the steering wheel.

I did try some insulation pipe lagging, the foam stuff, but it was too thick to get the Disklok on after.

Don't bother with the cover it doesn't stop the marking - I've got a bit of bubble wrap on mine and it does the trick!

I have the cover but also turn the disklok so that the bar is vertical not horizontal to stop the mechanism denting the top of the wheel.

This has to be the strangest guide I’ve seen on this forum!

I've always just used an old pillow case to prevent any marking on mine. Seems to do the trick. And also turn the disklok so the bar is at the 6 o'clock position on the left (if that makes sense).
