Will coding out the EGR prevent the dreaded cooler problem?
Please spare me the lecture on the environment.
Rather than a replacement EGR if it were to be coded out and blanked... would that resolve the matter? Or would the cooler still be functioning in some capacity? Thanks |

No, the problem is it physically cracks internally and leaks coolant.

The EGR can be coded to be fully closed all the time, and it may be possible to install a bypass to re-route the coolant circuit for the cooler. It would definitely be a warranty-affecting issue though.

It's not the issue of replacement per se. It's the fact that if it leaks it is a fire risk. Bugs the hell out of me that it could happen unknowingly.

Dude have you followed anything on here about the EGR cooler fire risk? It's not water. It's coolant. It's also flammable. Massive recall happening. National shortage of parts.

Apologies, I do appreciate coolant has a flashpoint, Sytner have a 2 month back log because of recalls. I’ve changed the cooler myself on the 330d and was of the opinion it looked like a poorly engineered afterthought, the coolant flow through it is an open circuit and the seal between the cooler and block is a push fit o ring so to eliminate any possibility of coolant leak would require considerable re engineering so although coding out the cooler egr would reduce the risk don’t think it would eliminate the risk, also Felt the cooler cracking was due to metal fatigue so just have to accept the part needs replacing at intervals
