It was definitely the putting that separated the teams. The US team making some superb ones time and time again.
Rory was pretty poor, so can't see how he could possibly have played the foursomes today. Thank god for Rahm, as he's carrying the team thus far. And agree about the lack of strength in depth in Europe… we are having to rely on some older guys, who are experienced, but not exactly knocking on the door of majors these days. Fitzpatrick is a good golfer, but he just doesn't seem to have the personality for this kind of event. Holland and Hatton seem to be relishing it a bit more. What did make me happy and sad last night was when Fleetwood had a massive hook in to the sea…. It looked like something I would hit!

And Hatton, quite frankly, has been awful.

At 9-3 to the US after three sessions it looks pretty much over; if as looks likely they go into tomorrow needing to win only four (or fewer) of the singles matches I can only see one winner.
And unlike yesterday - when for the most part the they won by playing really well - today we gifted them points which is disappointing.... |

Overall it's not like we've been totally outplayed today, as each game could have gone either way till quite late. But they really need to win this afternoon 3-1 or ideally 4-0 to feel like they've got a hope tomorrow

At last Hatton is contributing well, but Rory has barely hit a decent shot all week it seems.

I don't think he's made a Birdie the whole tournament (though one eagle), which is pretty incredible given the format, the tournament, and his previous pedigree. I can't help but think there is something going on.

You have to hand it to our American friends they have been in a totally different league and that has been highlighted today.
I cant see Europe winning again for quite a few years. Pleasure to watch some amazing golf. |

The Americans certainly deserved that, and the score line is a fair reflection on the gulf between how the sides played. Given their ages then you would have to feel like they could certainly win a few in coming years, but the European side needs to find some more new young talent. That we are still using Westie and Poulter after all these years says a bit about how the game is at the moment over here.

We were beaten by a very good team who played very well; they have real quality and strength in depth and, unlike some previous Ryder Cups, they turned up and produced the goods this time. We probably let a few points slip with poor putting and bad approach shots at important moments but for me that didn't alter the result, only the margin of victory.
Given the age of the players this US team is potentially going to provide very strong opposition for several Ryder Cups to come - if they keep playing like they did this time it won't be easy to get the trophy back from them when we play in Rome in 2023.... |
