If anyone knows who I can go about fixing this please get back to me. I really don’t fancy taking this to a bmw and paying through the roof.
The module for the reversing camera is located to the left of the steering column behind the cover. You can check the connection / plug. But the module often breaks.
A new/used one has to be coded.

Thanks for telling of the location for the module. I disconnected both the cables from it and was only able to get the car to detect that there was no module connected. However upon reconnecting the module the camera still does not work.

Regarding fact that the car is able to detect that no module is connected, does this point to the module not being the culprit if the issue?

I'm not sure if that can be inferred from that.
But as I said, the module breaks most often.
I haven't heard that often about defective cameras.
And there isn't much more to it.
That the PDC continues to work, the reverse gear, which activates the camera, is also correctly recognized.
Perhaps you know someone with a 1/2/3/4/5 BMW who would briefly lend you their TRSVC module.
In theory, it only needs to be connected briefly (without coding) and a picture should appear.

Sadly replacing the module did not work☹️
I replaced the module and coded it in. I still get the blank image when I go into reverse gear or when I press the PDC button. I disconnected the actual camera itself at the back and reconnected it, still no success.

I will borrow a reverse camera of a friend's 3 series however I already suspect this will be of no success.

This whole issue with the camera started when the idrive system suddenly refused to turn on for 15+ minutes after I had come back from a 30 minute drive. While the idrive system was refusing to turn on, the media controls on the steering wheel were completely useles and did not do anything. After 15 minutes it finally turned back on but now I'm stuck with no reverse camera.

If you have any other ideas please share l 👍🏼

Little update

In my mind I retraced how this problem arose. It started when the idrive was completely refusing to turn on. So I went ahead and purchased a used headunit from eBay.

After fitting it in and some bimmercode coding, low and behold my reverse camera started to work again!

I have now found and confirmed the actual source/cause of this whole problem. Ideally I want to hold onto my original headunit as the cars service history is stored there. I'll probably be contacting a company who specialise in headunit repairs and get this sorted once and for all.

Was your head unit OEM? I literally have had a dead rear camera for months now but I have also since installed an aftermarket CarPlay head unit. My parking sensors still work fine but all I ever get when I reverse is a black screen. And this started before the head unit was installed, so I'm assuming it's probably my module from what everyone's saying…

Yes my head unit is OEM. Recently I went into a BMW dealership for a routine brake fluid maintenance service. I also told them about the reverse camera issue. As they carried out the service and then plugged in their computer to reset the service light, it caused the reverse camera to start working again. As a result I didn't have to pay them a penny for the reverse camera fault as they technical didn't have to carry out any diagnosis or repair work.

The story gets bad unfortunately. Last week I plugged in a obd adapter to use the Bimmerlink app. As a result it somehow caused my reverse camera to stop working again. I'm also getting fault codes which I'll attach. So yes once again I'll be taking it into BMW and have my fingers crossed that they can fix it without carrying out any repairs work.
