R888

Im currently looking to get new tires and want to see if anyone has feedback on how something like the R888 does for daily driving? Im in NC so I dont have to worry about snow/ice very often but we do get a decent amount of rain so I need something that is at least drivable in the rain without safety concerns. Thanks in advance.

I ran the R888R on my M3 before... I haven't ran the older R888. They last maybe 4-5000 miles of street driving if you don't track it. They are R compound tires. Be aware that they heat cycle out if you drive them a lot. You may still have tread but it will not have much grip once it's out of heat cycles. Same if you don't drive it much, it will get hard when it ages and won't grip much.

The road noise is pretty apparent with them and is loud on certain surfaces.

The tires are streetable but it would be a waste of money if you don't track it. I mainly used it on the street to drive to and from the track and have never used it in the rain.

r888 tread isn't made to channel water away
so hydroplaning on puddles or at higher speeds would be a concern

Stick with something like the RE71r for a DD. They actually do well in the rain and you don't have to heat them up nearly as much as 888s to get any grip. DD 888s you won't get them hot enough to be useful.

Go for MPS4S for a UHP summer tire that is also excellent in the rain. You really cant go wrong with this tire.

+1 for RE71r if you want something a little more 'serious' that is also fine for DD.
