That's probably in line for dealer prices but that kind of job should go to an indy shop. No diagnostics needed just make sure they also install new pad wear sensors. I'd look for something closer to $900-$1,000. Of course your zip code might affect that pricing as well.

Thats way too high. Dont do it.

Also... dont mention that number when calling Indy. Let him quote you on his own.

Should be done for around $700 total including OEM parts. Depending on labor rate maybe $800.

You can source the parts yourself for about $500 shipped.

This is not a very involved service for someone who knows what they are doing. Should not be more than 2 hours labor maximum. He'll do it in half that.

Here's a nice kit from a reputable seller. As long as sensor is not tripped it can be reused. Either way, an OEM wear sensor is $15 if you decide you want a new one.

...and I'll just say that for less than the price of labor, you'd be able to buy every tool you'd need to DIY it.

Brakes are so important, they're pretty straightforward to work on...at least pads and rotors are.

I paid around $600 USD for OEM rotors (Zimmerman) and pads (front and rear), me doing the install couple years ago.

$1400 just for the fronts is INSANE! If you cannot do or do not wish to do the work, find an Indy shop.

Lol. Was getting a discounted oil change and dealership said rear brakes and rotors needed replacing. I was at 48k. I knew it was close since I had just swapped my snow setup on. He showed me their quote of $900 for rear rotors pads and sensor wire. I showed him my rockauto receipt (I didn’t know about fcpeuro then) for $225 and that my order had shipped. Took me an hour.

Yep, Its nice once in a blue moon to get that cheap or included oil change just to have a professional set of eyes on the car.. Then take whatever stuffs noted to tackle myself or if unqualified an indy.

I got my front and rear done at the dealership and was quoted for around 2500 at the beginning but they were nice enough to charge me just 800 to extend the service warranty plan that even comes with an oil change a new wipers at the end. That was two years ago on my 2015 f36

Anyway I guess the coffee and snacks and even the loaner car do eventually cost you if you get things done at the dealership

I am in the camp of diy. So much faster than dropping off the car at the dealer, dealing with a loaner (or god forbidden, a shuttle), picking up car again and dealing with service writer that doesn't know their stuff.

I never pay MSRP for anything. The 'S...P' stands for suggested price. It's not carved in stone. The average markup on BMW parts is 100%, which leaves a lot of wiggle room. BMW labor rates upwards of $100 an hour have a lot of wiggle room too, since the mechanics are only paid $20-$30 an hour. Never forget that no one ever gets the deal that they deserve, they get the deal that they negotiate.

Good advice: NEVER buy BMW parts from their parts counter on consumables like brakes or spark plugs. They don't make these parts, they have an OEM private label them BMW for them.

Their spark plugs are 2x more than the same Bosch version without the "B M W" stamped on the ceramic. Their rotors are Zimmerman. Transmission ZF, etc etc.

You can get the same "BMW" quality buying those parts elsewhere, and not paying the BMW premium. If you choose their parts counter, at least stock up on free coffee and snacks if they offer it to ease the pain a bit.

i sourced all my non-OEM parts (power stop drilled and slotted rotors, hawk brake pads, sensors, and SS brake lines, SS rotor screws) for around $600 and then paid an indy shop to install it including brake fluid flush for $500.

The problem with these sensors is, that the break often enought when you try to remove them from the old pads. So don't take any risks for 15 bugs

Technically correct there no BMW stamp on them...but Zimmerman does make rotors for BMW.
