Anyone running the Spool Performance Wireless Ethanol Analyzer Kit?
As the title says is anyone using the Spool Performance Wireless Ethanol Analyzer Kit? Looking to run this so I can get my E30 mixture right without having to measure a bunch of shit every time I want to run e85. http://spoolperformance.us/index.php...&product_id=81

I watched a guy install one on his 340i on youtube and it was super easy. A bit more involved on the 335i since the HPFP is under the intake manifold. But nonetheless, 1.5-2 hours of work and you can see your tank's ethanol content on your phone. Funny enough if someone were to get the long version that goes to the tank, you can use this with a splitter to run PI also.

I am pretty sure that 99% of people are just guesstimating their ethanol content by making assumptions on the E% coming out of the pump, and/or using the small little test kits to intermittently test the E85 and determine mix ratio from there. Not the most accurate method but you can at least use datalogs to see if your timing is OK. I think i have literally only seen 1 person say they used an ethanol analyzer before on these forums over the past 1-2 years.
Most people dont want to spend money on something unless it increases HP or makes noise, lol. |

See attachment below. Basically set your E-85 to tank capacity minus pump 91 gallons, and then you can either manually adjust your pump 91 gallons to see what your content would be for each low/high/best (E85 gallons automatically adjusts), or, use goal seek function to target a specific % and excel will tell you how much to add. Super basic calc. If you are filling less than a full tank you can just adjust capacity accordingly.
(I was 1% off in my post before, low assumptions give 18% not 19%) |

Android Playstore has a real nice calculator called E85 Blend... takes in all accounts of what you think is in the tank etc.... but honestly I haven't run E85 yet... I really want to get a tank monitor otherwise I'll probably just run each tank dry before each fill up and use one of those test kits... they're only $14...

(Not calling out you specifically BTW, just in general people say its a hassle to mix) You dont need to run the tank dry. Just drive until a little less than 1/4 tank remaining and then fill up assuming you are going to add 75% of your tank capacity. The link above shows the table of how to do that. You would just adjust based on your actual E content. The math is extremely basic. I just downloaded the app mentioned and it works fine, it was within about 0.03 gallon of what i showed in my table. The benefit of doing the table yourself is that you can set an upper and lower bound, so you know what your E% in the tank might be if the ethanol content in the pump gas or E85 has changed since you last checked. This will prevent you from overshooting E30 (HPFP crash) or going too low (timing issues). If your 91 gas quality is terrible like here in California the switch from ACN or 91 map to E map is significant. Its easily 20+ whp and wtq, and that assumes perfect timing on the 91 map. If your 91 map is inconsistent like mine was with pump 91, the gains will be even more substantial. Sorry, i digress... just get the analyzer if you want to skip the math, and if you install it, post up a review |

Wasn't worth it. I just started eyeballing filling up E30 after using the table a couple times lol. Haven't had any issues so far.

I just picked up the long line analyzer kit for my f30 n55? Im wondering if anyone has installed the same kit on a n55 yet? All instructions are of either e series of b58 I can't find any for the f series n55. I'm sure I can figure it out but I was hoping someone could tell me if I can get to the hpfp hardline without pulling the intake manifold.

There is no way to access this without moving the intake manifold. Im waiting for a black Friday deal and will purchase. I've contacted a few Indy shops and all of them say the manifold needs to be moved or taken off completely.

thanks for the responses. I was hoping i could get away with just removing the throttle body. My lpfp line is a little further back since i have a PI line installed as well. But i am just being lazy i guess.
Few more questions i was hoping you could answer please. 1. So when you install the sensor, does it just kind of sit there / float under that protective cover? I dont see any screw holes on their sensor. 2. For the connector at the HPFP hard line, was it just a push on connector or the connector that has the little fitting that screws on to the hose? 3. How did you end up wiring up power and ground, the typical way in the DME box? 4. Did you receive any installation instructions? Thanks again.

I wired it up under the passenger side cowl cover the one that had the positive battery jumper terminal. Their is a fuse box over their and it's also where I left the Bluetooth analyzer 3m taped to the brace. No install instructions and the only video I found was for a b58 which is a much easier install since their hpfp is on top of the engine. Overall it was a pretty easy install the most annoying part was feeding the fuel line up to the top of the fuel tank under the rear seats. But if you get the short fuel line kit you won't need to do that anyways. |
