How do I find out with UPD version I'm using?

I don't think there's an easy way... If you download the latest update PDF for your VIN (from BMW.COM) the release notes will tell you the version of firmware that is included.

Check that against the version on your HU, and you will know if you have the latest version. However, I don't know that anyone has created a table that shows the UPD versions and what firmware is included (historically).

What’s strange is that with the new updates site when I put in my full vin it shows nothing for me now?

2014 here and got the update on site with full VIN. Update took 2 mins.

The update appeared for me on the website, and now it doesn't. They changed the design too. Anyone got the update file they can host for me so I can download it?

Or maybe it already updated OTA?

And unfortunately, all three issues persist even after the update. Its possible that the update was in anticipation of a new IOS release..

Let me ask a few questions...

When your phone is connected via USB...is your phone in your arm rest?

If not, is the cable coming out of the arm rest compartment through the lid?

If so, have you noticed that the tolerance of the arm rest lid and the bottom piece is very tight and pinches the cable?

If so, please note that this arm rest will destroy any USB cable over time and through the vibrations from driving. As this starts to happen, you'll notice that your charging will be temporarily interrupted and then resume. iDrive wants to stay connected to your device, so it will revert to Bluetooth when the USB connection is interrupted, if the connection is restored too many times, iDrive gives up and stops pairing via either method.

I spent a grip on cables until I put this together an ultimately used a Dremel to create a channel in the lip of the arm rest lower half to provide relief for the cable. Haven't had any of the above issues since. Used to have them all.

The update didn't show for me when entering my Vin for my '14, it said I was already up to date. I was on 003.003.001. I can confirm that I was able to load the software update provided above which updated the TN to 003.255.080 and added HN as well. So far Spotify via Bluetooth on my Pixel 2XL works better when skipping tracks and is better at updating track info, but it is early days.

Formatted 3 flash drives, each on Fat32 and downloaded the .bin file. Sometimes the iDrive would say please wait, then resulting in "incompatible". Otherwise would show with nothing on the flash drive or incompatible..

Only tried with ignition on, must the engine be running?

I usually do the updates with ignition ON.

If you don't push the break pedal while pressing START, you'll turn on the electronics without turning the engine on. You can then update software, code the car, etc.

For a small update like this you’d could do the above but for any coding I’d always switch the engine on, last thing you want is for the electronics to switch off midway through coding as you’ve taken a bit longer before hitting the code button!

I'm having the same issue with USB and iPhone XR. USB connection is spotty at best. BMW Online Apps, also stream in a stop and go fashion. I just signed up for BMW Online so that I can online search for restaurants, etc. That still works but I believe that's because it works directly with the 3G chip. I even had some issues where the USB would stop working, then it would kill Bluetooth. It took about 3-4 restarts of both iPhone XR and the car for the BT to start working again. So for now, I'm just sticking with BT. Anyone else have any luck resolving this issue? It doesn't look like the UPD05081 resolved anything for those who installed it.

Would love to get thoughts on this... this seriously drives me crazy paying for a service that only has about 10% of functionality. I'll be at BMW Welt in Munich Sunday, so maybe I can get some help there. I'll post if I get any good info.
