BMW Free end of warranty check

Anyone done it? Is it worth the time?

The letter I received states they will check over anything and get the warranty work done before the warranty ends.

Then it goes on to mention how the first MOT is due shortly after.

Cheers

Yes, nothing to lose. Get the key read first though and negotiate a price for the known work. Then let them sort it.

No brainer really. Just don't let the knuckle draggers wash the car with their rusty rock sponges while it's there.

As said already. Basically, it is in the delaers best interests to find any warranted work that needs doing, because they can bill BMW for it all. So the car will get everything inspected and checked.

I had it done on my last one, they did MOT at same time Aberdeen BMW, the only thing wrong was the horns and they replaced both of them, think this was a common fault

Garage List
2014 BMW 328i  [5.00]
I had my tranny cooler lines replaced at the end of warranty inspection. Apparently they were leaking. I would have had no idea and would have been back in a month or two paying out of pocket for repairs.

Thanks to Niello BMW in Elk Grove for treating me right!

Is there a cost for them to carry out the end of warranty check? If so what are looking at?

Zero, nada, zilch.

Check the car yourself for anything you can find, and present that as a starting point. On mine all four alloys got replaced (no charge) for minor corrosion at the EOWC.

Also BMW will pay to get the car through its first MOT test (you only pay for the test itself), if it fails on anything.

As the name suggests it is a free check before your warranty expires. No issues to report on mine. However, my gut feeling is that they don't check anything and everything. If there any obvious issues they will address those. I took the opportunity to check the car over myself and scan for codes but found nothing. If I had then I would have pointed this out to them and expected a warranty repair. It was good to have it times with the first MOT.

They do not check, or at least report, everything.

Anything deemed as cosmetic will not be reported to you. So, diamond cut wheels will not be checked for corrosion etc. You must point this and similar defects out.

My wife's Mini had rubbed through the paint on the door pillars, down to the bare metal. Noticed two months after this check, phoned up and quoted £600+ for new door seals, respray and protective plastic. Known issue and fix... Grumbled and pointed out end of warrantee check they had missed it on... They said it could not be reported or actioned by them as its cosmetic. The customer has to notice these things.

Goodwill made it £72 at 3 years 2 months...

So, check for any cosmetic issues.

they should be very thorough, this is dealer's chance to get some work done and paid by BMW

You would have to choose good dealer, that helps man

That seems to be the crux of it.

At the time of the check I'd asked my dealer to check the state of the corrosion around the centre caps with a view to starting a claim, but when I collected the car (back in May) they said they didn't know about that so hadn't done it. The car was booked back in before warranty expiry so they could video the wheels, this was done and then nobody got back to me.

I've called the dealership three times since then asking about the status of the claim, and all three times I've been promised that someone will get back to me. Nobody has called. They do have my number, because I've had a call from a 'Customer Loyalty' rep, who expressed some surprise when I recounted my frustration. They told me somebody from the warranty team would get straight back to me, but of course they never did...

Now I have a car outside the warranty period, where the video evidence was apparently submitted to BMW (although I have no way to know it was ever taken) and seemingly no way to find out what is happening if anything. I wonder if BMW would be able to tell me whether it was ever submitted.

I really do need a better dealer.

Sounds familiar to my experience, but with the deadline for warranty days away I went in to my dealer and insisted they placed an item in the BMW system and give me a print out of it with a reference number.

Several weeks later, outside of warranty period, it was finally all sorted with all wheels renewed FoC.
