How does driving in manual mode affect gas mileage, because on my E90 335, I'm only averaging 17 miles per gallon combined city highway in manual mode.

proably shifting later than the computer would. also the throttle response probably gets more aggressive.

next time you fill up, see how it is leaving it in D.

personally there are just to many damn geard for manual mode.

Mostly Comfort Mode?!?!?! That is sacrilegious!

HAHAHA! Just messin' with you my friend! I'm pretty sure that I can safely assume that the 30% highway was 100% in sport mode!

I like comfort mode, comfort mode in DS is pretty nice. Sport mode is just to agreesive with the throttle response unless i am wanting to drive really aggressive

1200 miles on the odometer so far....

My route to work is 1/3 city and traffic lights and 2/3 freeway. I have been using Eco-pro religiously and never go above 75 on the freeway. The car is averaging 29.5 mpg combined. If I make a long trip on the freeway I can get 36 just setting the cruise to 75. I'm betting closer to 38 for a 100 mile trip.

28.2 MPG average over 2000 miles. 328i sport auto, mix of all driving modes. 30 mph avg speed, 30 highway/70 city.

I'm very happy. My e92 328xi got 20.5 MPG. And my previous daily driver, a Nissan Titan Pro-4X got 13 MPG. I'm saving significant money at the pump.

Loving all of these great mpg posts. When I grab the car in 8 days I will report my findings! I will be doing 80 percent highway, hopefully yielding close to 30 mpg!

This is from a 738 mile, three day trip up the CA coast in my F30 335i. In comfort mode the whole way and probably 90% freeway at 65-70 MPH.

As you can see the trip computer shows 33.6 MPG for the entire trip.

A manual calculation of 738.1/22.2 gallons of fuel = 33.2. So the trip computer is optimistic by about .4 MPG.

The same trip in my 2011 E92 335i always netted around 29-30 MPG, so this is a nice improvement.

At around 350 miles, I have driven mostly in town (about 80% city, freeway about 20% (and freeway also being much like city driving most of the time lol)) and I'm averaging at 25-25.5 mpg. Kind of worse than I expected, especially since I used Eco Pro a lot (then again, I had my moments where I took off too fast lol).

Oh well, I can drive about the same amount of miles with this car as I could with my X5 and with the current price, a full tank of gas is about 30 bucks cheaper than it was in my X5. I guess I can't really complain

Here are my latest fuel economy numbers, for a 328i Auto, roughly 50/50 mix of highway/city driving, all modes, mostly Comfort:

1st Fill-up: Computer: 27.7mpg, Actual: 26.0

2nd Fill-up: Computer: 28.6mpg, Actual: 27.0

3rd Fill-up: Computer: 29.1mpg, Actual: 27.8

4th Fill-up: Computer: 31.2mpg, Actual: 29.6

For the 4th fill-up Start/Stop has been working regularly, as temps here in Seattle have gone up. My driving habits have not changed.

Very happy with these numbers!

You will get it up near 30mpg in no time. I also started off at around 26mpg and was a bit irritated (until I hit the straightaways or windy roads in Sport mode ) but now we are up to 29.2mpg (90% city, 10% highway) without even using EcoPro mode, mostly Comfort mode (with Auto Start/Stop turned off) and the occasional Sport mode to show off. But as you said, it sure beats the X5. And in my case, VASTLY destroys our Landcruiser that is probably getting 13mpg or less city driving. Sometimes I feel it could be just getting 10mpg or so. It seems to be getting worst year after year. Now that gas is over $4 a gallon, our Bimmer purchase is all the better and worth sacrificing the space and size of the Landcruiser. Although we still have love for "ole reliable", our nickname for our Landcruiser.

Good to see you hear as well my friend. Really glad you started this same thread on our Bimmerfest forum. It helps to see what other enthusiasts have been clocking in gas mileage wise with their Bimmers! Looks like your really getting some great gas mileage.

Thanks Malc, good to see an old friend here!

I'm very happy the mileage seems to to be going up and up as the car accrues miles; my driving habits have not changed at all if anything I am using the performance more!

wow those numbers are reassuring.. guess it just needs time (the break in period) in order to get it to some nice numbers

Got a 320d ED auto in the UK. Averaging 57 MPG over the first 1000 miles. Driving on motorways about 70% of the time and using ECO PRO pretty much exclusively.

Now that's impressive! I'm still holding out for a diesel in the US...

Over ~1000km (600 mi) with my 2012 335i sedan AT:

8.8 L/100km combined (27 mpg)
7.5 L/100km commute avg (33 mpg)

Overall I'd say I'm about 40% comfort, 40% eco, and 20% sport. On the commute it's probably 90% eco.

It's Really nice to see people using the Eco, comfort and sport to their advantage. Many people are stating yup I use Eco on the highway and so forth and change into sport when I want to have more fun. That is exactly what this was made for, and one of my main reasons for purchase!

remember UK gallon is about 20% larger than US gallon, so in US terms you are getting about 46mpg, which is still fantastic!

Definitely, my mpg is going up each time I fill-up, but at the same time I am tending to use the performance more as engine feels smoother and faster and I can now rev to redline when I want.

My numbers make me think BMWs original 24/36 figures are more accurate than those from EPA which are 23/33 I believe (328i Auto).

SR, what is your indicated average speed on your 50-50 commute? 29 mpg is pretty impressive. I'm trying to compare the mpg of the new 328 to my 335d, but I need to get a more accurate picture of what sort of driving people are doing to get their numbers.

On freeway I drive just below 70, as the limit here is 60 and it seems to be common knowledge you won't get pulled if you are less than 10 over.

Can't remember average speed for my commute I will try to note it tomorrow.

Haven't really been using A/C at all yet as it hasn't been warm enough, not sure what effect that will have on mpg.
