QUESTION: P0597 Thermostat Heater Control Open
P0597 Thermostat Heater Control Circuit Open
I just read this code with my ODB scanner. From what I read the thermostat is designed to fail in the open position. Is it safe to drive with this code? I can't get an appointment until next Monday between being booked and the holidays. Just wondering if I shouldn't be driving the car at all. Thanks

I had my thermostat replaced and cooling system bled back in nov. I was able to get the car in the day the check engine light came on. Your car will be ok to drive, itll just take it engine a lil longer to warm up.

How did it go?
I had this same issues resolved a few weeks ago at the dealer. There is a heating element located within the thermostat housing. I was told when this element fails the system is designed keep the thermostat open. This element is supposed to aid in heating the thermostat. I drove for about a week without issue. The only con is that it takes long for the car to come to operating temps. |

The thermostat is located below the air box. If you remove the air box look straight now and you'll see the thermostat has one larger hose connection on top and one small one on the side of the thermostat and a large one on the bottom
