ECM programing recall 12 86 19RC
Does anyone have more info on this recall on a 2016 340i xdrive?
The recall was not in the system when the car went in for service in March but it is now listed as available. The description is "Recall Campaign No. ECR-B0001-19-002: ECM Programing (12 86 19RC)" and the dealership does not have more information. Last edited by ImBlue; 07-07-2019 at 11:41 AM.. |

Ran my '16 340's vin through NHTSA and BMW's websites, no recall found. Car was at dealer in April and no recall was done. I think we're OK for now.

I'm in Canada and my VIN does not show as valid when I run it through nhtsa. Our equivalent here (Transport Canada) does not list this recall yet.
BMW.ca (https://www.bmw.ca/en/ssl/VehicleRecall.html) listed it for my vin so I asked the dealer to complete it yesterday when my car was already going in for service. The service buletin is 12 86 19 0012080500, program control units (DME). |

One of my worries is if they mess up the MPPSK programming. Anyone have experience with this? |

I booked the car to have the recall done and MPPSK installed at the same time so can't comment on if it affects the previous programming.

Checked with my SA again and still did not have details on this recall.
Searched online and based on the threads linked below it seems M240i and M340i got thesame recall in Canada https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show...php?p=24993017 https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=25038946 |

Got the letter today. Same day that I was taking the car in for a perforated rad... Nice timing.
The letter says that its a voluntary recall. Since it would require me to physically remove the JB4 (They said they were detecting it even if it was on map 0 and unplugged from OBD) and i'm afraid that an emission recall would compromise performance, i've decided to opt out from it. Hopefully this will not become a mandatory reprog; like the previous one I had in march.

I checked my mailbox and got thesame letter today. Read the back where it talks about warranty.
I think it is voluntary meaning BMW is during the recall before Transport Canada forces them. "Failure to have this free repair work performed could be determined as a lack of proper maintenance of your vehicle, and could jeopardize your full protection under the emissions warranty provisions" |

Got the letter as well. Not a fan of the threat on the 2nd page, basically amounting to BMW threatening you may void your warranty if you do not do the recall.

I'm halfway through my warranty. I'm going to confirm that with my SA tomorrow. I'm only gonna do it if / when they force me to.

Had it done today as well, took an hour and no difference in how the car drives or sounds.
It did reset my 1-9 shortcut buttons. Everything else was untouched. |

Hopefully this time around I will remember to back them up to USB. Has anyone tried that successfully? |

Yes, when I was supposed to do this update, I gave them a usb key to back up everything and put it back after. They agreed but we ended up postponing the reflash still they could still see the jb4, even if deactivated and unplugged. So I guess they can even do it for you. Dont know why they're not doing it by default.
