Car insurance. 3 cars. How does it work?

So we already own and insure 2 cars on our Admiral multi-car policy. My wife insures one, and I the other.

I might be doing a deal on a private sale car next week.
So for a time we will have 3 cars, with a view to selling one soonish to take us back down to 2.

What's my insurance requirement for this process? I obviously need to insure 3 cars but I understand I cannot use my no claims for the 3rd car as they're already being used for car number 2.

Do I insure the 3rd car with zero no claims??
Can I add a 3rd car temporarily, on a short term policy?

I suppose I should just call Admiral, but I'd rather get some real world advice first of all from you knowledgeable lot.

Can you spare any advice?

The no claims only applies to one car.

Just call them...they answer quickly 0800 118 1611

(We have three on the multi car policy and chop and change)

If it’s only for a short time most insurers will allow you an extra car for a limited time. Up to about 50 days I think. I’ve done it a couple of times, it was free with one insurer and a £50 charge with another.

The only one that said no, was BMW Insurance. And both cars were BMW’s.

If you've got a decent claims record, call your existing insurer about the new policy - they may well give you a good 'introductory' discount equivalent to 2-3 years NCD - that's what we did a few years ago when we went to 3 cars.

I'm in a similar boat to you and use Admiral's multi car policy. They basically mirror your max no claims (14 years in my case) across all three cars, although each car accrues its own NCB should you move elsewhere, therefore I have 14 years on one car and 5 years on another. The CRV and WRX have been on there for years and it was only £50 to add the 335D on for a couple of months until the policy ends. Give them a call and they'll sort a good deal out I'm sure, they're one of the more reasonably insurers out there IME.

We've got 3 cars with admiral, the first year we did it they mirrored my wife's ncb for her second car, she now has two separate ncb for one for each car and mine is on my own ncb.
