Dealer scratched my vinyl...

So I just got my car back from the dealer today for an LED repair. When I drop it off, I told them not to wash my car as I know all they do is dry wipe. They cleaned it anyways. When I detailed the car tonight, I found a scratch on the hood. My satin white vinyl is a bitch to take care of and it won't take dry wipes. What can I do? They didn't really do anything out of line as they just cleaned it as they do with other cars. My finish is just more delicate than the other cars that they are used to. What are my options? Can it be repaired? I don't really want to take the car back to them and ask them to fix it as they'll just make it worse.

They probably wouldn't even fix it if you ask.

get it on the work order next time you bring the car in.

" DO NOT WASH CAR! "

only way you're going to have recourse against them

My experience has been that you are correct. They will make it worse. It happened to me last week. Small problem is now a much larger one. Sigh.

See what you can find on line about minimizing this type of scratch on your kind of finish and see what you can do yourself.

Vinyl as in wrap? If so, it would probably mean re-wrapping the panel.

This. My SA writes it about 78 times on my work order. I believe he has been having the car ports place a big a$$ note in my car too.

What did they do to your car? It's not the first time that the service guys messed my car up. Every time I take it in, they insist on kicking the crap out of my door trims. I know that it's not their car, but they should take care to respect other's property.

There's really nothing much I can do as the wrap itself is damaged. It's one of those scratches that can only be seen from some angles (directly reflecting off a light source). But it's rather annoying cuz I know that it's there. I hate this feeling. Lol

This is what I'm thinking too. Don't know how much they are gonna charge just for the hood. Also, I'm getting MPPK in June and I need to leave my car at the dealer for about a month (that's how it works in Hong Kong as they need to get the vehicle through government inspection). Given how the dealer treat my car, I anticipate that they are going to do some damage to the car AGAIN. Hence, I might wait till after that before I do the rewrap. But it's gonna annoy the crap outta me.

I seriously don't know why this is necessary. I'm just telling to do LESS work. How difficult is it for them just to follow simple instructions? I told my SA time after time. I even saw him tell the guy who took my car. I really don't understand how this can happen.

lol or you could just print your own sign and tape it to your mirror or leave it on the steering wheel. Just make it so they can't have an excuse.

Or maybe don't make your car so fragile that someone touching it the wrong way will damage it?

My dealer has a sign they put in mine whenever I go and tell them not to wash it. Last time my SA asked me at least half a dozen time "are you SURE you don't want us to wash it?" I had to keep telling them no, especially since it was covered in dirt after a week straight of rain. I can't imagine the scratches they would have put into my metallic black paint. *shivers

I do the same thing. They now even jokingly tell me that they are washing it..

There is a 'do not wash sign' in my car, and it is all over my service order.

I didn't think that I made the car more fragile by wrapping it. It was raining the day I took the car in and the car was rather muddy. The service center here does not have a wet wash facility and dry wipe is bound to damage any surface.

I called the district manager and he admitted that it was their fault for not putting it in their work order properly. Now they have it in their computer that this car shouldn't be washed.

+1. Don't bother to ask to add it as a note to the work order. The tech will ignore it because they aren't the one to wash the car. The guy that wash the car wont see your note because they have no access to the work order.

I tape a big 'DO NOT WASH' sign to my steering wheel whenever I bring my car into service.

I don't feel so neurotic now.

I have 2 signs which are laminated saying "do not wash".

One I put under the windscreen wiper and the other I leave inside the car where it is clearly visible.

I did this after they mistakenly washed my car despite no wash on the order. The dealer however did offer to clean the car properly, polish and put paint protection on it.

I detail my own cars so declined. In the end settled for a sizable discount on my next service.

BMW is bringing back the Highway Hifi. It will be a $900 add-on option to the HK Premium Sound.

Way off topic (and maybe it's because I have a two-year old), but every time I see this thread listed on the forum home page, I read "Dealer scratched my vinyl..." but in my mind I'm hearing, "Charlie bit my finger...". Guess it's a cadence thing.
