New Mini Cooper S options?

We called in at a Mini dealer yesterday and got a reasonably good offer on a new Cooper S for the missus. The only option box ticked on the quote was black cosmos wheels and the chilli pack. Should we be ticking any other options such as damper control? This is a very cost driven purchase as its a second car that will do 5k a year. The dealer is calling back today with a list of stock cars which he says he can reduce even further..

Go light on options, chilli pack is worth it for but of creature comfort.

The cars are an absolute blast, couldn't honk of a better second car run around

Hi there,

Glad you are getting a new F56 S.

Do go for visual boost radio, its a £300 option but well worth it and makes the interier look much better.

Are you going for a manual/ auto and have you decided on the colour combination?

The worst things about my Mini were the headlights, which are miles away from what we've got with the 3 series. Maybe the present standard are a bit better - the upgrade to LED is £610.
And maybe HK sound?

My brothers Cooper has quite a firm ride, so maybe Adaptive dampers?

A word of caution on the Adaptive lights. The Adaptive Lights on the 2 Active Tourer, based on the Mini platform, are no where near as clever as the F3x lights. In fact, it's difficult to see how they adapt?! They don't come with high beam assist either. I don't know for sure, but as a lot of bits on the 2AT are similar to the Mini (Sat Nav Etc) rather than other BMW's, I'm guessing the Mini will be the same

Yeah the ride was hard on mine - I put it down to specing 18" wheels. Any future Mini I get will have 17" wheels. Adaptive damping may sort it though.

I don't know what size wheels my brother has, I think they are standard Cooper wheels (apart from being hairdresser white )

All Minis are pretty firm but that's part of the appeal.

What are the deals on the S like? Are you leasing, PCP or cash?

As everyone has said get the LED lights, so much better and worth it for the looks alone. Anthracite rooflining - if you are PCPing as it reduced the monthly payment on ours!

Watch the radio as some who have ordered have been disappointed when it came, you need minimum visual boost if not standard, we got the media xl with satnav and HDD and its good.

we dont have adaptive dampers and its ok, suits the character of the car. If you are being cost conscious, why the S - we have a Cooper and the 134hp triple is more than enough to bring a smile to the face!

+1 on the Cooper. I have a Cooper manual and I am more than happy with it. Yes, I still like the styling of S however for the money I still prefer Cooper.

for the first time, I dont prefer the styling of the S....

As an aside, until recently my other car was a Golf GTi - also 3 door manual - and the Cooper didnt feel underpowered even with that as my comparator!

We've got a very well specced Cooper SD:

Heated leather - nicer leather than the 3 series
Prof nav - good if you need it
LED headlights - superb!
Auto- good but no the 8 speed in the 3 series
HUD - ok, but pointless if you don't have nav really
And a few other things I'm sure.

If you're trying to keep it cheap then none of t is needed, but let me know if you want more specific feedback on anything in particular.

Was in a mini dealer yesterday also as wife is looking to change her X1,

She likes the paceman as its "different" but I am not sure, (her car I suppose)

We have done ok on the numbers for an ex-demo Cooper S which has lots of spec albeit 6 months and 4k miles,

Car new would have been 29.5k, getting it for 22k and a good part-ex for her X1, more than supplying dealer could offer against BMW 1 and 2 series models,

Anyone have any experience of a paceman ?

Among the heavy spec is 19's - is this a bad idea ?
Cheers

Paceman is old spec - in common with the old shape mini rather than the 2014 onwards F56.... It is also unlikely to be replaced as it hasnt been a sales success.

It depends what you want - we nearly bought one for the wife but numbers didnt stack and now she has the F56, when I looked at one for my daughter it felt old....

you may want to look at the total mini forum for all things Paceman and relating to the various Mini models, I have nothing to do with the site but some good feedback from owners.

if I had tried to get my wife in a Fiesta ST she would have had something to say! Bought her a Golf GTi as a surprise - she drove it 4 months before deciding she just wanted another Mini and I inherited the Golf!

Sometimes they are more interested in the car than the "bang for buck"!
