New car...not so new member
Afternoon guys,
After being in the market for a car for a long time, my search went from an e91 330i to an f31 320 to finally an f31 330d. As you may know, my car search was more of a saga with many twists, turns, hesitation and stress! However, after many threads and posts with some excellent advice from you guys I finally pulled the trigger on an AUC 330d as below:
I'm not exaggerating when I say that it hasn't stopped raining since last Saturday. The drive from Manchester to Carlisle was "interesting" to say the least which consisted of stopping no fewer than 6 times on the hard shoulder to perform a temporary repair on my broken windscreen wipers! After finally getting there in one piece and signing on the dotted line, I was the proud owner of "Eric" Apologies for the poor picture, I haven't had chance to wash it yet! When I do I will get some better pictures up. In terms of my experience over the past week, in short the car is AMAZING! The acceleration is unbelievable, the handling is fantastic (even though I've not really tested it due to the weather), the car is incredibly refined and a fantastic place to be, even in traffic. The 8 speed automatic gearbox is fantastic, it's incredibly smooth and makes driving so much easier! I've not tried the flappy paddles yet! The HK system is awesome too, could do with a little more low end but that's easily fixed with an additional boot subwoofer at some points. There are a couple of negatives. The car doesn't have EBT, but I'm due to get that coded shortly The ride can be a bit harsh, which I'm assuming is due to the RFT tyres so will probably go for non RFT when I come to change the tyres. I would have loved to have a car with the 19" M Sport alloys, again that's something that can be sorted. All in all, fantastic car and I now look forward to getting in the car BIG thanks to everyone for your help! I know I've been a pain in the backside but I do appreciate all your help and advice |

Congrats! Fine looking car, must say never seen an MR F31 in the metal.
UK Hearsepost grows and grows, still time for me to swap to a body carrier!

Very nice car indeed mate! I hope you don't regret choosing it! The ride is probably due to RFT, I can live with mine and the positives of RFT are worth it, but I am also used to harsher rides so think its not so bad!

Nice looking car. Don't agree the HK needs another subwoofer though. It already has two of them.
Have a look at the sound settings - maybe the previous owner didn't like a lot of bass and turned it down.

Glad you are enjoying your new motor and that it was worth the wait. Give yourself some time for the car to grow on you - obviously your initial impressions are v.positive, but you'll appreciate it even more over the next few months.
As 73henny said, you can easily tweak the bass/treble/EQ settings in the HK - I've never found it to be lacking once you've got it set to your preferences.

Thanks Nick, it looks even better in the flesh! Quote:
The ride isn't terrible, it's just a little bit harder than anticipated. Quote:

Whilst I'm on the subject, do people have the Logic surround on? I turned it off, found it to completely throw off the sound stage. I'm not trying to criticise the HK system, it's fantastic. I'm just nitpicking really. Thanks guys Quote:
I think the HK issue is coming from having 4x12" subs in the back of the Vectra with 2kw RMS running through them. I'm not going to replicate such lunacy in the BMW but I think a 12" sub in the boot would complete the HK system. |

You're not the first to say they can't find a EQ setting that suits rap. Can't think why . Maybe theres a capital C missing somewhere And yes, I have surround on.

Welcome at last as a true Hearse owner
Car looks great, admittedly it took you long enough to make the obvious choice As mentioned, get used to driving the car and try it in different gear setups, it really is a fantastic car to drive. We do have a huge number of Hearse owners on here Including some of the fastest in the land. |

Thanks
I'm very tempted to get some 19s but just can't justify it at the minute. Quote:

The reason, in my humble and clearly corrupt opinion, is that rap/hip hop et al rely on heavy bass notes, quite often below 40hz. In order to properly experience these notes, a large amount of air needs to be moved by a speaker. |

I've not tested the car yet and I've not used the paddles just yet either. When I get a bit more time and the weather picks up then I can hopefully test it a bit more. So maybe Spring 2016!? |

Good work, glad you're enjoying it.
But "Eric"?! If it's after Cantona then it may be acceptable but I'm not sure guys naming cars is ever acceptable and certainly with guys names!

Looks fab.
Great thing about a second hand car is that it's all run in so you can put your foot down straight away.
