Winter arrives on Friday / Saturday

My winter wheels are currently enjoying a relaxing break in a 'BMW tyre hotel', but it looks like it's time they were fitted to the car. The weather is getting a lot colder by Friday or Saturday with the potential for snow, at least for those of us who don't live in the tropical south.

Maybe it will be like "Storm Abigail" (which whispered past here almost unnoticed, depite 50-60mph winds forecast) and will turn out to be another over-hyped spell of normal weather for the time of year. I know the Western Isles got it bad, but it was nothing out of the ordinary.
It seems to me the MET Office now have a pollicy of exaggerating the forecasts so that we all breath a sigh of relief when it's not as bad as predicted.

I blame that Michael Fish!

When I looked at the long term forecast over the weekend it was suggesting mild weather through to mid Dec?

Happy days, bring on the cold. I don't want to be just another forum twat who's dropped £1400 on winters cuz 2 blokes on a forum said they were essential

I fitted my winters on Saturday morning....neighbours must think I'm a cock. Car feels a bit 'squidgy' now, but perhaps a bit more comfortable and quieter also.

The forecast I saw had Arctic air pushing down from the north from Friday onwards.

Then again, the forecast may have been sponsored by Bridgestone Tyres

Its really tricky isn't it really in the UK, this whole subject.

Its all about the 6 degrees Celcius and being able to gurantee a period when its below this. We get such fluctations and especially in recent years traditional temps seem out of the window. I'm tempted to get a set and the new car WILL be staying for 3-4 winters this time. Hmmm.

Anyone to those that have them and have fitted, well done, good investment.

I got back from Sweden on Friday where everyone is on Winters (as it's the law from 1/12 to 31/3) thinking that winters would be a good idea - to 15 degree temperatures.

How well do winter tyres perform when it's warm? Preparing for the cold seems to be a better option to me than running summer tyres on ice...
