And yes I can imagine that about your back in the VRS. The suspension is awful, way too hard and a big reason why we didn't even consider it. The L&K has electric memory seat with electric lumbar so hopeful should be fine, especially on the comfier suspension. I will take it up north in the next month or two to compare it...... |

I drove a 320d recently and it was silent - quite a difference to my m-sport but that was due to the 16 inch wheels and large profile I think. The wind noise could be bettered in the G platform! Competition is a wonderful thing and if some of the quality the new 7 oozes travels to the 3 we will be all winners |

I went the other way... from an Octavia VRS to BMW 335D.. I agree comparing 4 cyclinder works. However the new Octavia VRS 4x4 tdi 180Bhp price tag is way too high, moved me to BMW.
Skoda's are great amazing cars but aren't there to compete with 6 pot BMW. |

The L&K wasn't available when I ordered the vRS. Maybe I'd still have an Octavia if it was. I'm sure it'll be a much nicer car to live with. They're good value, no doubt about that.

I need to be thinking soon what to switch to and the whole 335d package is amazing. Probably a X1, Q3 etc for the little one but it will be fun choosing. |

Your right in the 'VAG problem area' with that engine. You are a brave man, you got a massive discount for a reason, lets just hope someone wants it when you come to sell up!!!

I drove a 1.8 tsi previous generation Octavia - an L&K like yours. For those who don't know the L&K is usually top of the range and can be purchased almost without extra ie it had leather seats, metallic paint, xenon head lights included etc etc. Lots of space for a family, very reliable, comfortable. The 7 speed DSG gearbox failed after 6 months but that was a common problem now solved I believe with different gearbox oil. On smoothness of function, the DSG was the equal of the 3 series auto- it just worked differently. For a safe reliable family conveyance it can't be beaten and as you say no way is it £15,000 or so inferior to my 335D. Now why didn't I buy one again. Reasons On resale it had plummeted in value - there are lots of older Octavias around and they dont have a cache of a marque like BMW. The chassis and steering are rather unexciting. Not as poised nor sharp as the 335D. A lot of the engines are perfectly respectable but not powerful like the 3 litre turbodiesel. So I am saying if you can afford a BMW 3 series and money isn't a consideration you'll get one every time. If you would like to budget for a spacious, unexciting family conveyance you can't go past the Octavia. |

I'm sure there are many like me who don't give a crap about the scandal (the massive discount was before the scandal too), makes no odds to me to the car I bought, couldn't care less. Wildly inaccurate MPG claims annoy me more. |

I have a 170bhp 4x4 Yeti L&K.
Its a fantastic car and a consummate all rounder. The new Superb looks lovely also but can be specced to £35k! |

I was considering an Octavia Scout 4x4. When I test drove one I was impressed by the interior space but that was about all. The seats were not that comfortable, and while the dashboard was ok, there were a few places that were not up to standard. What I hated the most was the DSG gearbox. It had an awful delay when setting off. When I priced one up with the same options as the BMW it was nearly 31k which was nearly as much as my F31. It also had a bit of a tweed image to go with it which isn't me.

Hand on heart I can barely think of a fault on 9 beemers. All owned from new mind you and did keep 3 of them 3 years ! Bluetooth is the only challenge throwing a wobbler every now and then and nor connecting.
