$2500 Maintenance Upgrade (2yr) & $2800 CPO Warranty Extension (1yr) - Worth it?

Hey everyone. I got my 2015 3-series CPO last year and it has around 48k miles now. Haven't run into any issues so far. Full Maintenance Upgrade (2019-2021 up to 100k mile) costs $2500, while CPO warranty extension (2020-2021) costs $2800. Is either of them worth it?

Murphyís law..... if you donít get it something will go wrong......if you do get it, nothing will go wrong.

Depends on how much peace of mind is worth to you....not a bad deal though if something big goes wrong

so eloquent lol. but he has a point. the reason these companies make money is because they don't make financial sense for most buyers. it's all one what you can afford and feel comfortable with.

for the maintenance plan, probably not unless you have a significant service incoming over the next 3 years. but the CPO extension for 1 year...how likely is your engine going to blow between 2020 and 2021? that price seems insane for 1 extra year.

Is there a mileage limitation ? That and how many miles you will do would affect your decision. If you are planning to keep it and drive extensively it may be worth it if it includes brakes, water pump etc. Between 60,000 and 90,000 things start needing to be replaced.

$2800 for the one year extended CPO is very high. Shop around other dealers for a cheaper price. Also, how many miles do you average per year?

Be aware, the "full maintenance" plan from BMW doesn't even cover some of their recommended services like coolant flush. If you can get multiple oil changes and a new set of brakes out of it, it may be worth it but after I realized I wouldn't be covered by some of their own recommended services I'm debating cancelling and getting a refund

My local dealer offers N20 oil changes for $89 and N54/N55 for $99. OP would need Ďseveralí oil changes along with 2-3 sets of brakes to be even remotely close to his $2500 maintenance quote. Spark plugs would be covered and through the dealer that alone is almost $500.

With most things, I wouldn't spend much more than 10% of the value of the item on a warranty. You also need to weigh, what repair may you need to do in next year or two that would make plunking down $2800 worth it?

Also that seems like a high quote for CPO. I believe I paid 800$ extra when I got my car, and it should be negotiable.

The CPO warranty is best for ppl who drive lots of miles per year. At your mileage I would pocket the $2800. I just donít see the benefit of you racking up at most 20k miles extra for $2800 given that itís unlimited miles, yet only 12 more months of coverage.

in the next two years do you think you will spend $2500 in maintenance costs?

based on CBS at 48k , you will get at most two oil changes and possibly a set of pads and rotors. and if you bought parts yourself it would costs less than $1k.

i was sold into the maintenance and cancelled as soon as i could.

the CPO maybe a different story, your mileage is at the threshold for gaskets to start failing, oil cooler, oil filter housing gasket, oil pan, valve cover and gasket. these repairs cost alot due to bs labor costs.

i would try to get them all replaced while you have the warranty instead of extending it.

Unless your engine blows up, there is no way this is worth it. 48k is not high, I would not get it.

No and no.

You think that you would spend $2500 in routine maintenance in 2 years?

And the CPO warranty isn't bumper to bumper. It seems to me to be a pretty bad bet to spend $2800 on the chance that you will have a major warranty need that exceeds that amount during that specific 12 month period.

Take all that $$ and put it in a separate savings account.

^this.

Keep your money and skip the maintenance plan. I wasted about that much on my wife' X3. NEVER again.

Exactly. I saw the i_drive say brakes due in 3000 miles..so I thought i outsmarted the dealership lol and got the maintenance plan. They got me.

Brakes for my X3 (front-pads and sensor only with a rotor refinish) was about $290.00. Oil changes are anywhere from $59-89 depending on dealership. I would NEVER buy a maintenance plan again for any car. Period.

Overall, insurance is a good deal for the insurance companies. For you, insurance is a good deal if you collect more than you pay in or if it helps you sleep at night. In real life, you should insure against what would be a catastrophic loss for you. For some people, a $500 un-budgeted repair is a catastrophe. For some people, a total loss of a car means they go car shopping tomorrow.
