Not entirely but I can get it working if I'm careful...

What SEEMS to be happening in my case is that if the ethernet connection is plugged in when it boot, the RPi doesn't try to connect to WiFi on boot... so with the ENET-OBD connector plugged in, it never connects to my phone. But if I unplug the ethernet connection before I power it up, it will very quickly tether to my phone; after that I can plug it into the ENET cable and it will connect to the car and then the BM3 app will talk to the car without trouble.

I'm sure there's some simple tweak to the Rpi config that would avoid this but I have no idea what it is!

Just an observation I had also - if you're in the testflight or beta releases with the integrated OBD agent on your mobile device, that version is incompatible with the agent firmware that is available for this solution so you'll need to go back to the current public release of the iOS or Android software to use the WiFi agent.

i was trying to connect my iphone with the DIY wifi agent last Sun and this Mon, i could never manage to connect them (previously, last time being on Jul 30th 2020, I had a successful rate of like 67%).

this morning I downloaded the testflight version (because I gave up and wanted to switch to the new ethenet to lightning adapter method) and when I tried connecting with the DIY wifi agent again (because the ethenet to lightning adapter has not yet arrived), it worked!

BTW I didn't unplug the ethernet cable from the OBDII port beforehand like you recommended.

New update released for the firmware and app. Works with the BM3_NET wifi network instead of hotspot on my iPhone. Directly connecting the ENET cable though is what I do also as its so damn simple LOL

You have to add the chrome app in the "mobile data only" allowed app as well

Thanks! Now, how to quickly enable the mobile data usage? Can't find anything in Tasker.

Samsung S20 here no issues. My buddy has an S10 and got it to work too. Follow their instructions to the T and it’ll work

Their instructions never mentioned allowing the browser, which was the missing link and now everything works as it should. Not to mention there was a sneaky update to the app 9/26 which could have been for bug fix

i've been using the new wifi agent firmware with the wifi bm3_net and it works okay with the workarounds of allowing 'mobile data only' apps... however, has anyone found a better solution? this still seems a bit buggy with some hiccups in the app, and datalogs don't get uploaded until after i disconnect phone from the wifi network. not to mention it's a pain to go through the phone settings to enable this workaround.

in the past, i believe someone modified the wifi agent to allow bluetooth connection. is this still an option?

The image does boot on an Rpi4 and I am able to connect wirelessly with my iPhone 12 Pro. However, the app keeps losing connection. The longest I was about to stay connected was about 70 seconds of logging. I'm not sure why this is and have not had a chance to try to dig through the error logs(if I can even find them.). Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks for the heads up.

I just ended up going hardwire to my phone, and now I have no more issues!

Raspberry Pi 4 DIY BM3 agent compatibility?

Looking to get started on this project ASAP, does anyone know if the BM3 agent is compatible with the Raspberry Pi 4?

I'm working on building/installing an OBD Agent, but I want it to use the OBD plug for both data and power. I'll build the ENET cable like normal, but I'll have a second set of wires going to a transformer to step down from 12V to 5V. I plan to put a switch and fuse on the power into the transformer.

Any thoughts on this approach?

Curious if you ever figured this out?

I would like to set mine up in a similar fashion to this

I did not. I moved across country and had to focus on maintenance and now I don't have a garage space to tinker. I hope to mess with it again in the coming months, and will put a write-up on my build thread.
