Has anyone done this?
Today I was highway driving in Sport mode with my gear shift knob to the left for manual sport mode. After I came to a stop I forgot to shift the gears while I had my radio volume high. I was like "what the hell is that noise?" I was at 6500 rpms!!! It was only for a couple of seconds, I think but it bothers the shit out of me. Has anyone else done this? This is one drawback to the sport auto transmission.
Don't forget to either shift or move that lever back LOL! |

Wait. You were in manual mode and it didn't shift for you and that's a drawback?

Then, you started off again, in 1st, and as you continued to accel the engine rpm went to 6500rpm, and you went "WTH"? Perhaps you should use full auto mode. "Manual" implies some driver input. BTW, "noise"? Noise"? The N55 sure is some kinda "noise". |

Hey, I've forgotten to shift in regular manuals on several occasions.
Looking at the Tach while on the highway at 85 thinking to myself "Why am I doing 4500 rpm.. ohcrap!" |

I'm trying to force myself to drive in manual mode all the time, it gives me something to do. Plus, 1st and 2nd in the 8spd is so very short that it's way too easy and quick to get to red line. Personally, I don't do the "by the book break in", so I'm not worried about getting to red line. With my method the engine will reach red line quite a few times before 1000 miles, but NEVER at WFO or at rapid speeds. Steady climb to red, and then let engine braking bring rpm back down. |
