I will try, thanks.
It works now perfect with carplay.

2014 BMW X5.
Steering wheels buttons used to control MMI unit before updating from 20.5.9.10 to 20.6.2

I used to be able to answer and end calls by pressing the "phone" button on the steering wheel, I lost that feature with the latest update plus voice command button used to allow me to control Siri. no longer working.

Any idea?

I can turn off the parking lines from MMI configuration but, when I turn the parking lines on, they don't move.

Are you able to see the parking lines moving after cutting the green cable?
well there's 2 sets of lines , the ones that move and the ones that don't, i cut the green wire on mine to get rid of the static grid lines but the other one's do move with the steering wheel and they still moved when i cut the green wire , there were several different models of the cam i bought and some of them didn't have the dynamic parking lines that move , when you make changes to the camera settings on the mmi you have to reboot it for them to work

Just ordered my Carlinkit unit on Aliexpress. Can't wait to get it!

A few questions as I prepare for the installation (I have an F10):

- For Carplay, is there any advantage to installing the custom firmware other than cosmetic changes to the icons and boot/update screens? I won't be using AA. Should I just update to the latest official Carlinkit software in this case?

- Has anyone received the "Battery discharging while vehicle is stationary" message in iDrive? These cars are sensitive to power draws when the vehicle if off, so if the MMI unit doesn't power down properly along with the rest of the car's modules it could cause this issue.

Thanks!

I've never seen a discharge notice since installing and my car sits many days at a time now. I have seen it in the past on BMWs as the battery gets near it's end date so you might just have a weak battery and normal BMW drainage is causing the warning to finally trip

You don't, that's the fun part.

You could try to ask the seller, but most of the time they're as useful as dirty laundry.

I'm not sure they are even that useful.

Thanks. To be clear, I don't currently have this message on my car although I, too, have seen it in the past when the battery is near EOL. I remember someone in a forum post (not this thread) mentioning that he got this message immediately after installing the MMI, which is why I asked.

Good to know that it doesn't seem to be an issue! My car also often sits for days at a time since I've been working from home due to COVID...

Thanks

It seems that both Road Top and Andream are now only shipping the new B units. But Carlinkit continues to ship boxes compatible with the custom firmware.

Off topic.

I had a chance today to drive a Kia with a 10.25" infotainment system. AA wide screen looks better on such large screen but god, how it is even allowed to have touch screens on cars? Scrolling through songs, phones, the fact that you have to touch everything while driving and keep your hand steady, it's such an horrible experience vs iDrive.

I agree but assume most people use voice inputs.

I'll turn the Bluetooth back on in I drive and give it a few test calls. Thanks for the update all.

I hope someone can give me some advice.
I have been through more than 50 of these pages and wonder if the retrofit MMI is worth the upgrade?
I have a 2015 F83 that has NBT. I own an iPhone X.
Based on all the posts, it seems all the MMI options have some sort of issue and need a flash but still have limitations?
If I buy a new Andream, Carlink, Bimmertech, or JoyAuto, do I need to flash any of these to work properly?

Thank you in advance.

You shouldn't need to flash anything for the unit to work - it should work out of the box whichever one you buy. The custom firmware adds some nice things like widescreen Android Auto, and routing calls via the OEM bluetooth, but it will still work without these.

Been enjoying the latest custom FW

Any thought given to the fact that the resolution/aspect ratio for AA is clearly still not quite right? Circles are not round, whole UI seems stretched ever so slightly on the x axis. How much more room do we have to play with this?

Auto connect for AA is also not working for me, in the sense that I have to manually click Carplay MMI from my phone's bluetooth menu, and then it starts up. With my iPhone, it always connects as I get in the car without having to do anything. Is there any trick to get this behavior on Android?

Have you deleted everything and re-paired?

I believe that the dpi is optimized for the a 8.5" screen. Do you have the 10" screen? As for auto-launch, it works on my Samsung Galaxy S10e without any adjustments needed. The problem seems to be that your phone is not automatically connecting to the mmi bt connection. That is what triggers auto launch. Which phone are you using?

I have the stock 8.8". It's definitely close, but still seems wrong given the stretching, would love to compare it to the OEM implementation on the 2017+ cars. DPI seems fine, it's just the resolution/aspect ratio that seems a hair off.

I have a Pixel 4. That does seem to be the issue, so maybe it's on the phone side, I'm not aware of any settings to change that.
