Possible coding fix for those with soft M Sport/Performance brakes?

Same here, don't like the spongy pedal, but when the brakes are pre-armed its rock solid which is a bit too much!

It seems a little better since my discs were replaced under warranty but still not great.

Will dealers actually check this stuff or have access to? Shawn S said they don't have the ability to code just write the SW...........?

Just had my car back from the dealers and allegedly the brakes were already coded - this said they feel completely different now! Just saying...... much more grab!

No I had the MPE fitted and some ACS springs (thanks Lorcan) - absolutely perfect now

You think they changed something but denied it was wrong in first place?

My car is at the stealers at the mo but I'll have a look at those settings when I have it back, as I think my brakes are too soft too.

Car back from the dealer, checked the values just now and they're already set to what the guys said it should be to make it work better. If that's all that is to those M Performance Brakes then I'm not impressed.

Having said all that, when I've been really hustling on a back road, on track at Bedford, on the 'ring, or a big stop on the autobahn I absolutely love the brakes and don't feel in any way that they're underpowered. They went long at Bedford but that was after 3 or 4 hard laps. They even have good feel then.. it's just pootling around town they feel a bit soft, or from cold.

Mine feel very soft unless in Sport/Sport+ or pre pumped.. Seriously they should be much more responsive if you ask me. Nearly ended up in someone's ass the other day because of that.

I have recently dumped my pads and replaced for Ferodo DS2500's. Soft pedal and bad feedback resolved with these. So the stock pads obviously have high compressibility from BMW, which I'm not surprised at now having seen the massive amount of chamfering in them.

I thought the initial bite around town was a little soft but equally they are far easily to modulate and are less grabby which BMWs and Audis in particular were known to be. If you think these brakes are sponges try driving a 911 with ceramic brakes and be surprised just how hard u have to press the pedal !

I know what you mean about lots of cars being very sharp at the top, our Z4 was like that and I think we've just got used to that in modern brakes. It's more the dead zone at the top that annoys me at times, and the way the car seems to be constantly adjusting the pressure in the system.

Hi Dan, did you do pads all round or just the fronts?

I did all round. However, they aren't for everyone. The sensors won't attach (I,m not bothered, because of the lack of chamfering you can easily see the amount of wear), plus there are no anti-squeal backing shims, nor the top counter weights. Therefore, they can squeal like banshees at low speed. Given that this is so anti-social, I have added anti squeal shims of my own with pagid cera-tec grease and has mostly cured it. Copper slip did not fix it.

So they bite well on contact and as they get warmer they get better. It's great because they aren't reliant on heat. In fact, on the motorway, when reducing cruise control speed with the joystick, there is a noticed increase in brake bite, so there is a faint jolt as the car slows quicker than with OEM pads.

I think, however, these will best suit slotted discs to make absolutely sure there is no glazing, and probably aren't necessary for the rear.

I should probably add these comments to the 'have you modified your brakes thread'...

Hi Guys, thanks for the info. I have done what Tangocity has posted. And I can confirm that it works and reduces the spongy pedal feel to almost none.
