F31 - Brand New Detail
Dealer was under the strictest instructions not to touch the car in terms of cleaning/washing/polishing etc.
My detailer has started to clay the car and this is what came off the spoiler! |

Ouch... I did mine and got next to nothing off with the clay.
Should look (and feel) amazing after the session. Post some after shots please.

Being done at his place....just down the road from the dealer (Wollaston Northampton). |

Rhat can't be right on a new car. Did the guy clean the car, use iron off etc? Something is really wrong there...

It might surprise you but most of the new cars are very dirty(tree soap, bird poo etc.) as they only get cleaned/paint corrected prior hand over. Working at BMW did burst my "buying new car comes perfect" bubble.

The car was sitting outside for a couple of weeks because I wanted a 1 Sep registration. He's going to do a write up on Detailing World with some pics. |

Forgive my ignorance, but claying...
....don''t we try not to rub dirt over paint, two bucket method, micro fibre, blah, blah, blah? Seems to me that claying does exactly this in a very efficient paint scratching manner? |

Claying is essential before attempting to polish a car or seal/wax it. There will be contaminants in the paintwork that won't be removed from the two bucket method.
You will notice after claying a car that it should feel silky smooth. The contaminants get picked up by the clay bar. Old bits of clay are really useful for removing brake dust from alloys There's a good guide here: http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...ead.php?t=4829 |

WARNING - detailing world is bad for your health / marriage / bank account !!!
Since finding it i have spent hours researching products and cleaning methods that i didn't know existed, didn't know i needed. I thought cigars were bad enough but car cleaning may run a close second ! I look forward to seeing the review of your detail. |

Claying will mar the paint slightly yes but thats all part of the process. After that you correct and polish but because of the clay you are working from a very smooth contaminate free base therefore the feel and shine are much better.
Every car should be clayed every 6 months or so, makes a massive difference. |
