A detailed inspection of the EGR wasn't carried out as the lack of build-up in the cooler suggests that the EGR will be clear. There's some surface build-up (soot + oil vapour = crumbly oily deposits) inside the inlet manifold, but nothing out of the ordinary for an 80K mile car (which doesn't mean that it's completely clear, just that there's no indication of significant clogging).

Original parts are being refitted with new gaskets and the car will be ready for collection tomorrow.
Exactly the same response I had when mine was in. Must be the way we drive them

I don't have a 335D but I do have a 2 litre diesel engine that falls within the production period. Mine is august 2015, but BMW told me that the chassis number has not been recalled? Slightly confused now. I have a 318d 2016 LCI

According to them, my EGR Cooler has a crack in it letting exhaust gasses escape, BUT this is not part of the recall campaign. They told me they are specifically looking for traces of coolant and coking up of the EGR cooler module itself, and when they inspected mine it was perfectly clear, so they can't replace it as part of the recall.
So although the part in question is faulty, they can't cover it's replacement FOC.
Just my luck!!
They are going to speak with BMW UK over the next day or two and find out if they can offer some sort of goodwill, but personally I doubt that will happen, will keep you updated....

Cheers
Joe
Just had word back from the dealer - BMW UK have agreed to replace my cooler, not under the 'recall' but under 'goodwill' - will pay towards 100% parts and labour, but I have to cover consumables which is basically around £25 of coolant I'm being told.
No courtesy cars available until mid November, BUT the goodwill offer runs out on 31st October, so work must be done before then! Mine is going in this Friday for the work to be done - they have given me the impression it will be done that same day - let's hope they have a cooler in stock as I have noticed a few people mention two months waiting list for parts!
Will let you all know how it goes.

Cheers
Joe

They've expanded the recall:
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/news/...cid=spartanntp

Not sure on the goodwill offer expiring - seems a nonsense to me. Mine's booked in for November and if anything needs replacing, I won't be paying a sausage!

I got the call to take it in a month or so ago. They told me they'll need the car for at least a couple of days which seems at odds with other posts on this topic...

an earlier post quoted..

In the European market this technical action relates to the EGR module of BMW 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, X3, X4, X5, X6 vehicles with 4-cylinder diesel engines (production from April 2015 until September 2016) and 6-cylinder diesel engines (production from July 2012 until June 2015).
On the door, the plate says 'built July 2015', (435d - so i'm guessing that's 6 cylinder), so a small chance of no recall? although it's pre-LCI. Either way I suppose I should give them a call. A bugger for those who may have had remaps.

Given how recent it is, hopefully there should be a website up soon where you can just enter your vin to check.

I get the impression they are making this stuff up as they go along. Everyone gets told something slightly different. It does seem a bit petty of them to charge you for the coolant which has leaked out due to their substandard part, but I don’t think I would bother arguing for the sake of £25.

I would. £25 is £25.

Mine went into Sytner Sunningdale earlier this week. Car is around 3.5 years old. Nothing needing replacement, no leaks or blockages found. And no mention of fitting any replacement EGR parts later on.

Ok so to summarise my experience - car went in on Friday morning and was ready to collect later that day no problems at all. Final bill came in at £11.80 to cover some replacement coolant, but other than that I now have a brand new EGR Cooler fitted as 100% goodwill for parts and labour, result!

Oh and another thing, my codings and remap are all still intact.

Cheers

Mine in and out today. I had cooler replaced last year anyway.
SM advised its only certain coolers depending on batch number and not necessarily every car. The build time/age isn’t enough to identify what part from what batch is fitted apparently; hence some are being sent on their way after a visual check.

Not saying this is defo the case but may make sense that there appears to be a variation in approach to what outcomes we are all getting.

Mine in this afternoon after the Low Coolant warning on the dash yesterday and was texted to say she will update me when she gets a report from the tech. I had my EGR valve replaced last March due to a Drive Train error.

Please report back on if it gets done that quickly.

I'd love to know how that is so, if it does, given I keep getting told (now 4 weeks in) that parts are on a worldwide back order, and I'm still looking at December to get ours back.

Hmm, I don't think ours is included in the recall......2014 325d but over the past day or two on a run to Dublin, we got the "low coolant" warning on the dash.

Was a bank holiday so all dealerships were closed but I checked and there was coolant in the bottom of the reservoir, about a quarter full.

Went to BMW yesterday and they topped it up and checked and said it's not included in the recall but still, where has the coolant gone? Surely this is a pressure sealed system.

Booked in for next wed for a pressure check which I would hope would highlight an issue but surely cars like these should not be losing coolant unless I am being naive

My 2003 Clio with over 100K that gets mauled every single day has never lost a drop.....ever.
